Portugal Golf Holidays – Lisbon and Porto are among the friendliest cities in Europe

Porto bridge. Two destinations for golf holidays, Lisbon and Porto, regarded as some of the friendliest cities in Europe

Lisbon and Porto, two great destinations for golf holidays, among Europe’s friendliest

According to the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards of Condé Nast Traveler, where the readers of the popular magazine decide the winners, Lisbon and Porto are among the friendliest cities in Europe. These are two stunning destinations for golf holidays.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, has been considered the 8th friendliest city in Europe, while Porto, in the North, ranked 5th.

Condé Nast Traveler writes that Lisbon has fast become a stalwart favourite for weekend getaways, weaving together historic cobblestone streets, Neoclassical and Art Deco architecture that escaped destruction along the way, and more contemporary draws too, including selections from some of Europe’s most exciting chefs at the best restaurants in Lisbon and high-end fashion boutiques.

Condé Nast Traveler claims that the city of Porto is becoming increasingly popular as a holiday destination thanks to its sunny weather, traditional charm, diverse architectural styles, friendly locals, and exciting nightlife. As a result, Porto’s hotel industry has expanded to include both unique boutique hotels and well-known luxury chains.

The Lisbon region is the second most popular golf holiday destination in Portugal, right after the Algarve, and has some of the finest golf courses in Europe, like Praia D’El Rey, in Óbidos, and Oitavos Dunes, in Cascais.

While the Porto region has a smaller variety of golf courses, it still features brilliant golf courses like Estela and Oporto Golf Club, which is the oldest golf course in Portugal.

Spain Golf – The practice area at Chaparral Golf Club now has a new tee line

Chaparral Golf Course. Brand new tee line at the practice area of Chaparral Golf

Improvements on Chaparral golf course

For the benefit of its members and guests, Chaparral Golf Club, in the Costa del Sol, made a number of infrastructure enhancements in 2022. The golf club’s most recent investment, which was recently finished, was a full refurbishment of the upper part of the practice area.

The first thing that was done was the complete waterproofing of the entire surface, later artificial grass was placed as a trim to integrate into the environment in the most natural way possible and finally, the installation of the new tee line surface was carried out.

After considering the players’ playability and training time, a continuous tee line 35 metres long and 2 metres wide (70 square metres) manufactured from the best materials was installed in place of the individual practice mats. Tee Turf PA XL, a grass composed of high-quality nylon, was selected as the preferred option.

“We went for this particular grass because it is both more durable and more flexible than other polymer materials. After having been tested by more than a thousand golfers, we can confirm that the Tee Turf PA XL type of grass is the one that comes closest to the sensation of hitting natural grass”, said Chaparral Golf Club director Domingo Gavira.

Domingo Gavira explained that the investment is crucial to the athletes’ well-being since the surface significantly lessens the likelihood of injury and physical impact.

Aside from having one of the best driving ranges on the Costa del Sol, Chaparral Golf Club also features a 1,000-square-metre putting green, short-game facilities, and practice bunkers.

Other service enhancements are planned for 2023 as Chaparral Golf Club strives to become the go-to destination for golfers who want to improve their game’s technical aspects in a serene setting amidst pristine nature.
