The Hilton Vilamoura joins the Associação Mãozinhas Solidárias to support families in extreme situations and celebrate Earth Hour on March 25, by organizing a charity tournament.

For the first time ever, the resort is hosting a charity tournament at Dom Pedro Pinhal to bring attention to climate change and promote environmental consciousness. In this way, on March 25, from 20:00 to 21:00, all the lights in the resort will be off, thus marking Earth Hour.

The resort in Vilamoura will use Earth Hour – Golf Challenge to raise money for charity, the Associação Mãozinhas Solidárias, which provides food, clothes, and medicine to low-income families.

The charity tournament will start at 20:00, but it will only last for one hour due to special circumstances. The lights will go off in observance of Earth Hour, leaving the golf balls as the only visible objects. Each ball will be reflective and have a light source built into it to ensure player safety.

The profits from tournament registration will be given to the Associação Mãozinhas Solidárias as a solidarity gesture.

The Earth Hour – Golf Challenge is open to everyone. To do so, you need to get in touch with Nevada Bob’s Golf Shop at the Hilton Vilamoura between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

“First, I want to emphasise the significance of supporting great charities like Associação Mãozinhas Solidárias, which helps families in dire conditions in the Algarve. Second, we have a goal of minimising our environmental impact. The tournament was created to increase environmental awareness and encourage more sustainable lifestyles”, says general director Mário Custódio.

“Here, we strive to uphold the brand’s core characteristics, which include solidarity and proximity”, concludes Mário Custódio.

Álamos and Morgado are making an effort to help the community

Through June 30th, the Portimão golf courses Morgado and Álamos will be collecting food and clothes for those in need as part of a series of solidarity initiatives designed to benefit the local community.

“The Morgado and Álamos golf courses are carrying out a campaign to collect food in solidarity with the Social Canteen of the Paróquia da Nossa Senhora do Amparo de Portimão”, the NAU Hotels & Resort Group said in a statement.

From Monday to Friday, the community center’s dining hall serves roughly 80 meals to those in need, with a second dinner served each night. The organisation also gives out weekend baskets filled with necessities.

Food is being collected for the food reinforcement given daily and for the baskets, an initiative led by the Morgado and Alamos golf courses.

You may help by donating food items like milk, sausages, biscuits, bread, and more. At the same time, used clothing in good condition is being collected for the benefit of Cáritas Paroquial da Nossa Senhora do Amparo.

This institution provides support to several families in the area and is faced with a shortage of clothing, especially for men.

Donations are collected at the reception of golf courses, delivered weekly to beneficiary institutions, and distributed by these to needy families in the region.

On December 9th, the Portimão Firemen’s Charity Tournament, already in its fourth year, will be conducted as part of this programme. Typically, 100 people, both members and local players from the Algarve, take part in this tournament.

All funds raised from registrations and the prize auction will revert to the Firefighters. As in previous tournaments, the amount achieved will be used to enhance the fire brigade’s areas of intervention.

Tomás Bessa won the Order of Merit of PT Tour

The last event of the PT Tour, won by Jamie Savage, saw Tomás Bessa winning the circuit’s Order of Merit.

The PT Tour final tournament, Optilink Tour Championship, took place at Dom Pedro Laguna, in Vilamoura, and was won by the Scottish golfer Jamie Savage, in a play-off against Vítor Lopes and Tomás Bessa.

After the 3 rounds of the Optilink Tour Championship, these 3 players were tied for first place, with an aggregate of 206 strokes (-10).

Tomás Bessa was eliminated from the play-off in the first hole after he hit his ball into a palm tree. Savage and Lopes halved the hole and went back to the tee three more times before Savage finally triumphed with a birdie and won the prize of 3,500 euros.

“There was a time on the back nine when I was up by two strokes, but then I missed a short putt and started to lose my confidence. Gladly, I was able to manage my emotions in the play-off and win”, revealed Jamie Savage, who underlined: “The weather was excellent and the event was extremely well organised”.

“Losing the play-off left a sour taste in my mouth”, said Vítor Lopes. The native of the Algarve was awarded 2,000 euros in prize money.

Tomás Bessa, who got the 1,500 euros allotted to third place in this event, remarked: “I am really glad to have won this Order of Merit. Overall, I won two tournaments and lost twice in the play-off”.

“Everything went wrong in my final round; I missed easy putts, misjudged the wind, and failed to capitalise the four-stroke lead I had from the second round”, he continued.
