Algarve: Roundabouts on the EN 125

Along the EN125, which crosses the entire Algarve, there are about a hundred roundabouts. Some with local symbols, well arranged, others with nothing, overgrown and without any visual interest, a bad image of the local authorities.

In the eastern Algarve there is a roundabout that will be one of the most beautiful and most representative of the Algarve, as a tourist destination: at the intersection with Cabanas de Tavira.

The Benamor golf course, which is on the other side of the road, deals with this roundabout, lawn, with a “player” and a golf buggy, grass and even a bunker…

Beautiful… and a good example…

Further ahead, at the crossing to Praia Verde and Rio Seco, the Castro Marim municipality has struggled for a long time to build a roundabout, to avoid the constant accidents with victims, but it is unable to obtain authorization…

Bad… sadly bad…

Golf on stamps

The Correios de Portugal (CTT) launched in November the Whole Postal Evocation of Golf in Portugal, the first philatelic initiative in Portugal linked exclusively to golf and paying homage to the 20 years of the Architects Golf Club.

The ceremony took place at the Jamor National Golf Training Center with the presence of the President of FPG (Miguel Franco de Sousa), Director of Philately of CTT (Raúl Moreira) and the President of CGA (Dante Macedo).

“It is a fair position between celebrating the club’s 20th anniversary and evoking golf in Portugal, which is the best destination in the world to play golf”, said Dante Macedo, also a philatelist and recalling that CTT, with hundreds of years of experience existence, they had never done anything about golf.

The Whole Postal Evocation of Golf includes a stamp that is a beautiful photograph of the Paredes golf course, by photographer Ramiro de Jesus, and on the back a drawing by architect Leonor Janeiro with various symbols of the golf game.

“It is the most beautiful postcard that CTT launched this year,” said the director of philately at CTT, Raúl Moreira, noting that around three dozen postcards were launched this year.

The collection also includes seven prints with photographs of Portuguese golf courses from north to south, architecture in golf and other images, each registered by a member of the board of the Clube de Golfe dos Arquitectos. Each seal bears the logo of the 20 years of the Clube de Golfe dos Arquitectos and identifies the landscape.

This philatelic collection of Golf in Portugal is essentially aimed at collectors around the world.
