La Hacienda Links Acknowledged
Recently, the golf course of La Hacienda Links Golf Resort was honoured with the title of ‘Best Golf Course in Spain’ at the tenth World Golf Awards. This accolade acknowledges the significant investment by Millennium Hospitality’s owners following a transformative renovation spearheaded by architect Kurtis Bowman.

Highlighting excellence in golf tourism, this year’s World Golf Awards convened industry luminaries from over sixty-five nations spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America, and Oceania.

“We’re immensely proud of this recognition. It underscores the outstanding efforts of the entire La Hacienda team and Kurtis Bowman’s vision, resulting in one of southern Europe’s most distinctive courses. The allure of our landscapes, greens, bunkers, and panoramic vistas is undeniable,” enthused Javier Illán, president of Millennium Hospitality Real Estate.

This accolade caps off a remarkable year for Links de La Hacienda, following its recognition in Golf Inc.’s esteemed ‘Renewal of the Year’ competition for its par 72 design.

“This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the Millennium Hospitality Group, notably our president, Javier Illán. From the outset, he envisioned positioning the resort among Spain and Europe’s elite. Recognising the resort’s potential, we’ve not only revamped our flagship Links but also introduced a rebrand. Next summer heralds the inauguration of the Fairmont La Hacienda, a luxury accommodation that promises to amplify regional tourism,” remarked Javier Jiménez-Casquet, general manager of La Hacienda Links Golf Resort.

Integral to the resort’s comprehensive overhaul was Bowman’s role in refining hole designs, landscape aesthetics, and golf sustainability measures, making it one of the most remarkable golf courses in the Seville and Cadiz area.

Collaborating with constructors GTM Golf and Garden & Golf, the endeavour encompassed tee, green complex, and bunker renovations, along with hole redesigns. These enhancements signify Links’ ascent as a burgeoning powerhouse in European golf over the past year and the star of a full remodel across the resort, becoming a fantastic opportunity for a golf break in Andalusia.

Beyond reviving the Links course and its clubhouse, the resort’s 36-hole enclave has introduced myriad enhancements to its golf and recreational offerings. This includes augmenting the eighteen-hole Heathland course. Furthermore, introducing updated accommodation packages and a transition house for Links players augments the resort’s allure. Looking ahead, La Hacienda is poised to inaugurate the Fairmont Hotel and a 213-room villa complex in 2024, solidifying its ambition to stand as Spain’s premier luxury golf destination holiday in Seville and Cádiz surrounding areas.

Spain Golf Holidays – More overnight stays and foreign golf tourists in Huelva

Golf tourism is growing in Huelva

The golf sector in Huelva, in Costa de la Luz, reported a 48.88% rise in overnight stays and a 31.29% increase in foreign travellers in February compared to the same month in 2022, confirming its deseasonalizing role.

The Huelva Golf Course Association, a member of the Tourism Business Circle, has favourably judged these data, released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which support the increase attached to promoting this sector, which is so essential for Huelva.

“A good scenario was in sight for this segment for this year as a result of the first contacts kept with international operators (European market)”, according to a statement. The scenario has been confirmed by the data obtained in the first months of 2023.

Initial expectations have been exceeded, according to January statistics showing a 72.96% increase in hotel accommodations and a 67.42% increase in foreign visitors.

From a financial standpoint, the industry is still having the same problems it did this time last year due to the “disproportionate” increase in production and operating costs that pretty much every activity is experiencing.

Thus, “we find ourselves with the only segment that actively and certainly complements the development of the tourist activity linked to the holiday segment, and is effective in terms of the fight against persistent seasonality that it suffers from”, the Association concluded after considering the available data.

Huelva is home to stunning golf courses like El Rompido North and South, often considered among the finest golf courses in the Costa de la Luz region.

Spain Golf – The Alps Tour 2023 will come to Spain

Palomarejos Golf. Palomarejos will be the first Spanish stage of the Alps Tour 2023

Palomarejos Golf will be the first Spanish stage of the Alps Tour 2023

The 22nd Alps Tour season will have three important tests being held in Spain: the Alps de Las Castillas, the Alps of Andalusia, and the Fred. Olsen Alps de La Gomera, where the 5 players who will be able to play the Challenge Tour next year will be determined.

“We believe that the Alps Tour is a circuit in which you learn to compete and much more, to prepare, to manage, to travel, and so on, and the careers of these great players bear that up”, says Jaime Salaverri, president of the RFEG Professionals Committee.

The Alps de las Castillas, the first Spanish stop on the Alps Tour, will be held at Palomarejos Golf, in Talavera de la Reina.

“There have been excellent players who have gone on to succeed worldwide from the 11 years of partnership between the Castilla La Mancha and Castilla León Federations”, states the host president, Carlos Gutiérrez.

The Alps Tour will then head to Isla Canela Links in May to celebrate the Alps of Andalusia.

“The Royal Andalusian Golf Federation (RFAG) maintains its support for the Alps Tour not only to see the emergence of the great golf stars, but also to attract young players to the golf courses of Andalusia, where there is much more to do than golf and they like it”, said Pablo Mansilla, the president of the federation.

“After 12 years of backing the Alps Tour, the RFAG is happy with the outcomes”, concluded Pablo Mansilla.

The Fred. Olsen Alps of La Gomera at Tecina Golf, in the Canary Islands, is the third and final Spanish event.

“Our journey has witnessed the beginning of great players worldwide and we continue to bet on professional golf. Whoever wins at Tecina Golf is going to have a great career ahead of them”, says Cousins Pusnik, Fred. Olsen’s asset manager and director of Tecina Golf.

On April 19–22, Palomarejos Golf will host the Alps de Las Castillas, while on June 14–17, Isla Canela Links will host the Alps de Andalusia. Finally, on July 12–15, Tecina Golf will host the Alps of La Gomera. All of them will have the support of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
