HotelPlanner Tour’s Grand Final Returns to Alcanada

Mallorca’s north coast turns into the season’s biggest stage this autumn. Club de Golf Alcanada, tucked beside the lighthouse at Port d’Alcúdia, will host the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November 2026 — the HotelPlanner Tour’s season-ending showpiece, and the sixth time this coastal test has closed out the Road to Mallorca.

A Course That Keeps Getting Asked Back

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and opened in 2003, Alcanada is Mallorca’s only genuinely coastal course, its par-72 layout sloping down toward the Mediterranean and that lighthouse on the tiny island just offshore. This will be the fifth consecutive year — and sixth overall — that the club has staged the Grand Final, a run matched by very few venues on the European golf calendar. (Club de Golf Alcanada)

The Grand Final caps a 28-tournament Road to Mallorca season spanning 19 countries and three continents, with a total prize fund of €9 million. This week alone carries €500,000 and 4,000 Race to Mallorca points — double the usual event — as the leading players chase one of 15 DP World Tour cards, down from 20 the year before. Graduates qualify for the DP World Tour’s Earnings Assurance Programme, guaranteeing $150,000 in minimum earnings for 2027, with the top five also receiving the John Jacobs Bursary. The 2025 edition is a hard act to follow. Alcanada wins its third Diamond Award

The Alcanada Golf Club, in Mallorca, part of the Balearic Islands, has been honoured for the third time with the Diamond Award at the Tagmarshal Awards.

The award, given to Alcanada at the PGA Show in Orlando, Florida, was a climax to a fantastic 2022 that included the golf course’s hosting of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final last November. The success in the tournament led to its scheduled return to Alcanada later this year.

“The club’s primary focus is on enhancing the playing experience for its members at all times. Although we are well aware of the need of maintaining a steady pace of play for most players and the potential damage it may do if not handled properly, it has never been an issue here”, explains Alcanada Golf Club Director Kristoff Both.

“With the help of the Tagmarshal system, we’ve been able to improve our approach and anticipate any issues on the golf course, so our players can focus on taking in the beautiful scenery and pleasant Mallorcan weather”, added Kristoff Both.

The award recognises the club’s outstanding efforts in areas like the pace of play, player experience, and course optimization, all of which have helped establish it as a top location for golf’s most prestigious tournaments.

In fact, a round of 18 holes at Club de Golf Alcanada is 5 percent faster thanks to Tagmarshal’s revolutionary optimization technology, a significant benefit for a sport that is increasingly challenged by game rhythm issues.

The Tagmarshal Awards were established in 2019 to honour the best of the 500+ golf courses that have partnered with the company. That year, Alcanada took home its first Diamond Award; in 2021 and 2022, it received two more.

By winning a third prize, Alcanada now ranks among the world’s top 30 golf courses, joining such illustrious institutions as Pebble Beach, Ballybunion, Erin Hills, Pinehurst, and Portugal’s West Cliffs.

The 59club Europe South Annual Excellence in Service Awards ceremony will take place on March 2, and the top golf holiday resorts and golf courses in Spain have been shortlisted.

These distinguished honours are given to venues, teams, and people who go above and beyond to provide exceptional service to members and visitors in the worldwide golf and hospitality business.

The rating is impartial and is determined by scores achieved through a detailed and objective mystery shopping program that measures the experience provided to members, visitors and potential members that encompasses golf, leisure, spa and gastronomy operations.

In the Costa Brava, the resort Camiral Golf & Wellness, which was voted the number one golf holiday resort in Spain, received five nominations in multiple service excellence award categories.

In the Costa del Sol, the resort Finca Cortesín, host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, is nominated for two awards.

The golf courses of Alcanada Golf and Golf Son Muntaner, both located in the Balearic Islands, are represented in the categories of Golf Retail and Greenkeeper of the Year, respectively.
