Vale de Janelas Retain the National Club Championship – Seniors

Vale de Janelas have done it again. The West Coast club successfully defended their title at the National Club Championship – Seniors, edging out Estoril by two strokes, in what became a tighter contest than most would have predicted.

The two-day event was played across two formats and two venues. Round one, held at Santo Estêvão Golfe, used Individual Strokeplay — with each club counting its three best scores. Vale de Janelas, arriving as reigning champions, built a commanding nine-stroke lead over nearest rivals Miramar and ACP Golfe.

Day two brought Foursomes into the equation, and with it, a change in tempo. Estoril refused to go quietly, posting an impressive 147 to Vale de Janelas’ 156. In the end, the arithmetic still favoured the champions. Vale de Janelas finished on 385 (+20); Estoril, to their credit, made them work for it, finishing on 387 (+22). Quinta do Peru took third place on 393 (+28).

It is the fourth time Vale de Janelas have lifted this title since 2022 — with only 2024, when Belas Clube de Campo took the honours — interrupting what has otherwise been a rather comfortable reign. The winning team comprised Gonçalo Mota Carmo, Jeffrey Valade, Ken Cooper and John Williams.

Estoril’s challenge was mounted by Miguel Franco de Sousa, Manuel Agrellos Jr., Sofia Paiva and José Maria Cazal-Ribeiro.

Tomás Melo Gouveia Leads Portuguese Charge at PGA Aroeira Open

Portugal was once again in focus at the PGA Aroeira Open, the penultimate event of the 2026 PT Tour season. Played at PGA Aroeira No.1 Course, the tournament brought together international professionals and rising local talent on one of the Lisbon region’s most established layouts.

Tomás Melo Gouveia finished as the leading Portuguese player and the only national representative inside the top 10. He secured ninth place at four under par, following rounds of 68, 73 and 71. The result continues a consistent run for the Portuguese professional, who recently claimed victory at the San Lorenzo Open in the Algarve.

The tournament was won by English amateur Dylan Radford, who posted an impressive 13 under par total of 203 strokes. He defeated Belgian professional Matthis Besard in a playoff after both players delivered strong performances across three rounds.

Behind Melo Gouveia, Pedro Lencart was the second best Portuguese finisher, tied for 13th place at three under par. João Pereira stood out as the top Portuguese amateur, finishing 20th at one under par. His performance is notable given his recent return from a five month academic break abroad.

Pedro Figueiredo, a two time PT Tour winner this season, finished tied 24th overall. Despite the result, he closed with an excellent final round of 66, one of the best scores of the day.

The 2026 PT Tour season now concludes with the Optilink Tour Championship, taking place from 6 to 8 March at PGA Aroeira No.2 Course. As Portugal golf continues to grow in depth and competitiveness, the PT Tour remains an important platform for national and international players alike.

 

Golf For Wish at Monte Rei Highlights the Heart of Portugal Golf

Portugal golf will take on a deeper meaning on 11 April as Monte Rei Golf & Country Club hosts Golf For Wish, a special charity tournament in partnership with Make-A-Wish Portugal. This year’s edition is proudly sponsored by Tee Times Golf Holidays, reinforcing its commitment to supporting both Portugal golf and meaningful community initiatives.

The event will be played on the renowned North Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, widely regarded as one of the finest championship layouts in the Algarve. The tournament follows a 4 Ball Better Ball pairs format, combining competition with camaraderie on one of Portugal’s most respected stages.

The day begins at 08:00 with registration, followed by access to the practice facilities at 08:30. A shotgun start at 09:30 sets the field in motion. After the round, players will gather for a three course lunch with drinks, where a solidarity auction will take place between courses.

The entry fee for golfers is €245 per person, with the full amount donated to Make-A-Wish Portugal. Participation includes lunch, shared buggy and one hour of practice range access.

Non golfers are also invited to join, with a two hour beginner clinic at 12:00, followed by lunch and the charity auction. The entry fee is €65 per person, entirely donated to the cause.

As Portugal golf continues to grow internationally, events like Golf For Wish show how the sport can extend beyond competition. With the support of Tee Times, Monte Rei once again becomes a place where excellence on the course meets generosity beyond it.
