Benamor – Weekly Competition

The Chez Golf Society did not visit the Benamor golf course for a long time, so it was a pleasure to play once again that beautiful golf course down the east.
The features of the Benamor Golf Course are ideal for a social/friendly game, offering an opportunity for a good score to all levels of players, and this was reflected on the majority of the scores that day.
Curiously there were the 2 best scores on the last formation, both with 43 points, Allan Russel, a guest playing of 6 handicap, who was playing the course for the first time, and did one under par ‘gross’. The other player Carlos Ferreira, playing of 13 handicap, also had an extraordinary round, with 6 above par ‘gross’, and that without any birdies.
The climax of the game was on the 18 hole, where Allan made another birdie – 4 points – to match up with Carlos and winning the first place in the countback of the last 3 holes. The 3rd place going to Jeff Seymour with 37 points, who also won the nearest-to-pin, played on the hole 12, par 3 with 145 mtrs.
Back to the Club House where all missed shots where drowned on good pints and usuall chips and curry sauce.

Millennium – Weekly Competition

On yet another perfect sunny day for golf, the Society Saturday Stableford Competition was played at the Millennium GC, Vilamoura, with a later than normal 13:52 tee off time.
A strong field of 17 players competed, on a course that has produced some fine Stableford points scores in the past, and yet again the winner played to better than his handicap to take 1st place.
In fairness, most players considered that the course has been in better condition, with several areas of tee, fairway and greens under repair or maintenance, giving a somewhat patchy affect, however this did not make for low points scoring with 10 players scoring 33pts or better.
The front nine played tougher than the back nine, thus giving the organizers the the job of countback situations for the 2nd 3rd and 4th place prizes.
Drinks and Nibbles followed at the Clubhouse ( Chez Carlos Restaurant, Vilamoura ) with Tracey McCall and Alison Anderson presenting the prizes to the winners.
Trevor Ward ( 14 Handicap) one of the original Society members with 37pts came first , with 3 players on 36pts vying for 2nd 3rd and 4th on the back nine and back six countbacks, these went, in order to Jeff Seymour ( 6 ), Michael Dickson ( 12 ) and John Constantine ( 18 ), with the former winning the nearest the pin prize at the 15th hole.
Thanks to all our Members and Guests who played, and for the travelling golfers amongst you, hope to see you all again soon.

Vale do Lobo Royal – Weekly Competition

Another wonderful afternoon. Our thank you for Vale do Lobo for the excellent deal to Chez Carlos Golf Society.
A warm welcome for the members: Trevor and Heather Ward and Tony and Lorraine Mullen, who were in need of the sun of Algarve.
We also had some visitors joining our members, making a group of 15 players.
Vale do Lobo Royal proved once again that is a very hard course, where any player should be happy with the result of their game.
The best results went to 3 players all with 33 points. The winners were decided in the back-nines. In first place Jeff Syemour, in second place Heather Ward and in third place Garry King. There were some no return score cards.
Nearst to the pin: the front-nine was on hole 7, with 125 m, where Jeff was the winner, who placed the ball 1,5m from the hole and held the putt for a tasty birdie.
The back-nine was on hole 16 – the famous hole over the cliff – and the winner was Silvya King, being maybe the only one player putting the ball on the green
As usually the presentation was in Chez Carlos restaurant.
Next Saturday, on 19th September, we will have the next game on Laguna golf course at 13:06. There are great expectations, as the course has been closed during 7 months for redesigning and maintenance.
