Vale Do Lobo Ocean GC – Saturday 31st March ’12. Weekly Competition

Play Vale Do Lobo Ocean and you will rarely have a special view ahead of you; it is probably more spectacular than its sister course The Royal. Essentially the front nine is new Ocean and the back part the original layout. Either way you play it is a treat so no wonder we had another good turnout of x14 players again for the competition today.

Special welcome to newcomers Brian Norris and Clive Hill who had been playing a San Lorenzo tournament the week before.

Rain had finally arrived in the Algarve this week much to the delight of the golf courses who have experienced a very dry winter todate. The greens whilst adundant with grass were slow and uneven – not usually a Vale Do Lobo trait. The morning rain subsided to leave us playing once again under blue skies and sunshine.

Salgados – Saturday 24th March. Weekly Compettion

An ensemble of x14 players gathered at Salgados GC for our regular Saturday competition. Because if its coastal location the wind is virtually always a companion on the course yet there was some strong scoring and we averaged 32.1pts over the whole field; a great performance indeed. A warm welcome was extended to Debbie Wilson and Clare Daniel returning back for another Society game. It was thier first time at Salgados and loved it – good scoring too with 29pts each. Well done girls.

2nd: Michael Dickson 38pts (21+17)

3rd: Sean Horkan: 36pts

Vila Sol Championship – Sunday 12th March ’12

It was an early start of 08:24 for the Society players today as we teamed up with Vila Sol for thier reguarly Sunday roll up. High season at the moment so a green fee of just €40.00 and buggies at €30.00 is great value. The Championship (1-18) was selected today which is a challenging layout at anytime of the year. Dry conditions with still little or no rain here in the Algarve made for often fast pacey downhill putts.

Successful day and an opportunity to meet some new players. We shall be returning to join them again – sooner than later.

1st: Marco Duarte: 36pts
2nd: Manuel Oliveira: 35pts

Best Chez Carlos Society player:
Deirdre Kearney: 29pts (4th)
