Tenerife: Abama Golf Course setting new standards in sustainability and quality

Abama Golf Course, nestled on the stunning island of Tenerife, is not just a golf course; it’s a commitment to excellence and environmental stewardship. In a move that underscores their dedication to quality, they have announced a temporary closure until the end of September. This exclusive period will see them undergo a transformative upgrade, transitioning from Bentgrass to the environmentally friendly Bermuda TifEagle variety.

This change isn’t just about enhancing the quality of their putting surfaces; it’s about embracing sustainability and reducing their environmental footprint. The Bermuda TifEagle variety is renowned for producing top-quality putting surfaces while conserving water and resisting infections and diseases that commonly plague traditional grasses. By making this switch, Abama Golf aims to significantly reduce its reliance on fertilizers and harmful chemical pesticides, furthering its commitment to eco-friendly practices.

Tenerife is one of the most sought-after destinations by Tee Times Golf Agency clients looking for something different and unique for their Spain golf holidays.

Abama Golf sustainability paradigm

But their dedication to sustainability continues beyond there. During this closure period, they’ll also be renovating the clubhouse facilities with the customers in mind. Every clubhouse aspect, from the golf boutique to the Club House restaurant, will be revamped to provide unparalleled service and comfort.

Abama Golf isn’t just a golf course; it’s a masterwork conceived by the legendary golf architect Dave Thomas. Nestled on the western face of the Teide volcano, the 18-hole course offers dazzling views of the Atlantic Ocean and a unique landscape with over 25,000 palm trees, white sand bunkers, and cascading waterfalls. Abama Golf is a true oasis for golf enthusiasts.

But what sets Abama Golf apart isn’t just its picturesque scenery—it’s the commitment to excellence in every aspect of the course. From the meticulously maintained greens to the diverse array of subtropical plants and 23 sprawling lakes, every detail has been carefully crafted to provide an unparalleled golfing experience.

Thomas, a professional golfer turned renowned golf architect, Abama Golf is a testament to his legacy. With over 100 courses bearing his signature, including prestigious venues like The Belfry and La Manga Club Resort, Thomas’s influence on golf is undeniable.

Golf Costa Adeje Sustainable Anniversary

Golf Costa Adeje Sustainable

Golf Costa Adeje Sustainable Anniversary
In honour of the quarter-century since it was developed from a former banana plantation into one of the best golf courses in the Canary Islands, Golf Costa Adeje had its 25th anniversary celebration on October 3rd this year.

In that period, the course has undergone a remarkable transformation, becoming a symbol of excellence for golf holiday tourists in Tenerife. The number of visitors has climbed continuously and has surpassed those from 2022, before the pandemic even began.

Although the club’s initial clientele consisted of English and German speakers, it has lately seen an influx of Central European golfers, including those from the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, as well as Eastern Europeans from the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

The 2003 Spanish Open was a turning point event that solidified the Golf Costa Adeje reputation. The club’s history will never remain comparable due to the participation of renowned national figures like Severiano Ballesteros, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, and Sergio García.

Afterward, 2005, 2008, and 2009 were the years that women’s golf took centre stage at the European Ladies Open, which was hosted by the Ladies European Tour.

Even if the 2020 pandemic presented some obstacles, Golf Costa Adeje not only got back to work, but they were even more determined than before. In 2021, the club hosted the Canary Island Championship in May and the Tenerife Open in April, both of which were European Tour events.

The World Corporate Golf Challenge, a prominent amateur golf competition, has also held its finals at the club for the previous two years.

Some of the most distinguishing features of Golf Costa Adeje are its prime Canary Island location and the reliably pleasant weather that it experiences throughout the year. But its stellar reputation is due in large part to the hard work of its employees and the money it has invested in machines and technology. Golf Costa Adeje is devoted to the future of golf sustainability practise and has made a significant contribution to Tenerife‘s quality tourism via its dedication to continual improvement and the creation of new initiatives within its facilities.

The organisation is devoted to golf’s ecological sustainability since its members are responsible for mitigating human activity’s negative effects on the environment and our finite resources. The creation of an environmental department has led to a recent uptick in activity. Commitments to continual improvement in all areas of sustainability are embraced to strengthen sustainable management. The use of solar energy in machines and buggies, the implementation of an effective irrigation system with clean water, and the adoption of measures like the eradication of plastics are all part of this.
