Tee Times Portugal Golf – Portugal Leads Winners at World Golf Award Ceremony 2015 at Conrad Algarve Resort, on the 5th-8th November 2015

The 2nd Annual World Golf Awards Gala – Ceremony 2015 took place this last weekend, where Portugal lead the award wins, at a glittering event at Conrad Algarve, Portugal.

Portugal won the “World’s Best Golf Destination 2015” and the “Europe’s Best Golf Destination 2015”. Quinta do Lago Resort in Algarve, Portugal won the “Europe’s Best Golf Venue 2015”.

Within Portugal, the winners were Royal Óbidos as the “Portugal‘s Best Golf Course 2015″ and Pine Cliffs Resort as “Portugal‘s Best Golf Hotel 2015″. In Spain: Las Colinas Golf & Country Club was recognised as “Spain’s Best Golf Course 2015″ and Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe the “Spain’s Best Golf Hotel 2015″. There was also success for St Andrews Old Course Links, defending the title of “World’s Best Golf Course”.

Following the event World Golf Awards Managing Director Christopher Frost said: “We have seen some true champions emerge here this evening at the second annual World Golf Awards.

“It has been a privilege to recognise the international leaders in golf hospitality and to shine the spotlight on some of the best golfing destinations from around the world.

“Can I offer my sincere thanks to those who have joined us here at the Conrad Algarve this evening and my congratulations to those among them who have emerged victorious on this wonderful night.”

Broadcasting legend Steve Rider hosted the Gala Ceremony alongside the glamorous Ela Clark.

The presentation of the awards formed the centrepiece of a three-day itinerary for the World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony 2015, with guests enjoying some of the world-class facilities on offer at the famous Quinta do Lago Resort, in Algarve, Portugal.

English Andy Sullivan is the most categorical winner ever in Portugal Masters.

There has never been doubt as to the winner of the Portugal Masters at the Oceânico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura. Andy Sullivan started the last lap to lead with 5 strokes advantage over the Spaniard Eduardo de la Riva and never let the competition get too close, it was because his closest opponents were not very inspired or it was because he himself returned to the highest level, finishing with a round of 66 shots (-5), surpassed only by the 64 English Richard Bland and 65 by the German Bernhard Ritthammer and French Romain Wattel.

Eventually won with a final advantage of 9 shots (!) over the second-placed compatriot Chris Wood, establishing the biggest difference from a Portugal Masters champion over its closest rival and spraying the previous best mark in this chapter which were the three edge punching Alexander Levy in French edition 2014, in this case on the Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts and a reduced edition two turns.

Then he totaled 23-under-par, getting just two strokes of record in the aggregate of the 72 holes, which belongs to also English Steve Webster since the inaugural tournament in 2007, at a time when the field was par-72 and not par-71 as it is today.

Sullivan, 28, who thus won his third title of the year on the European Tour after winning twice in South Africa, became the fifth Englishman to win the Portugal Masters in nine editions, succeeding Steve Webster (2007), Lee Westwood (2009), Tom Lewis (2011) and David Lynn (2013). The British rulers were in fact putting three players in the top three – behind Sullivan and Wood, appears Anthony Wall, tied in third place with South African Trevor Fisher and Eduardo de la Riva.

“Absolutely amazing, especially for leading from first to last day,” he said. “And start the last lap to lead to such a great advantage is something we had never experienced. It is much harder than it looks, I’m sure. We can not slow down. I never felt relaxed, just as I hit the second shot on 18. Golf is a funny game. We never know what can happen. As for the two Portuguese who spent the cut, Ricardo Melo Gouveia ended in beauty, with a 68 that allowed him to move up eight places to 31, tied with South African Jaco Van Zyl, the Indian Jee Milkha Singh and French Benjamin Hebert all with a total of 5 under par, earning a prize of € 15,800.

And the national amateur champion Thomas Silva shut down with 75 to 20 seats, ending up tied at 68 with English Paul Dunne, both with an aggregate of 3 over par.
