The Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG) proudly celebrates 75 years hosting a series of special events, including an exclusive Coach Training Program.This year, the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG) proudly celebrates 75 years of dedication to the sport, marking a legacy of excellence and growth in golf throughout Portugal. In honour of this significant milestone, the FPG is hosting a series of special events, including an exclusive Coach Training Program, held on September 2nd and 3rd at the Centro Nacional de Formação de Golfe in Jamor.

The two-day Coach Training Program, guided by renowned coaches Kiko Luna and Sergio De Céspedes (Real Federación Española de Golf), focused on refining essential skills such as swing technique and short-game strategy. With their vast international experience, Luna and De Céspedes brought a wealth of knowledge to the sessions, which were designed to combine theoretical instruction with practical application, ensuring a comprehensive and effective learning experience. This innovative approach fostered a rich exchange of ideas between the coaches and the National Team players, further enhancing the development of golf talent in Portugal.

With over three decades of coaching experience, Kiko Luna has been instrumental in shaping the careers of top Spanish golfers like Jon Rahm and Azahara Muñoz. His expertise and De Céspedes’ extensive background as a former professional player and esteemed coach made this training program an exceptional opportunity for all participants.

The Centro Nacional de Formação de Golfe, located at the Centro Desportivo Nacional do Jamor, is owned by the state and managed by the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe. Opened in September 2013, this nine-hole course enhances public accessibility and supports the training of new and elite golfers. Honouring excellence: Joaquim Sequeira awarded Medalha de Bons Serviços by FPG

Joaquim Sequeira was awarded at Clube de Golfe de Vilamoura with the Medalha de Bons Serviços (silver) by the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG).In a fitting tribute coinciding with the year of the 75th anniversary of the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG), Joaquim Sequeira was awarded the Medalha de Bons Serviços (silver) during the Vilamoura Junior Trophy award ceremony. The tribute took place at the Laguna Golf Course clubhouse, with Miguel Franco de Sousa, President of the FPG, presenting this prestigious award. This honour recognises individuals, organisations, or institutions significantly contributing to national golf.

Joaquim Sequeira contributions

Joaquim Sequeira’s contributions to Portuguese golf are unparalleled. Since 1985, he has been a key figure at the Clube de Golfe de Vilamoura, where he has not only coached but also inspired and mentored countless young talents. Under his leadership, the club’s teams have won 17 National Club Championships and numerous titles in the Under-18 and Under-14 categories. His crowning achievement came in 2013 when he led his team to triumph in the European Club Championship, a historic first for Portugal. Beyond his coaching successes, Sequeira has also developed several players who now compete on the European Tour and European Challenge Tour. He claimed four National Senior Professional Championship titles as a golfer, further solidifying his legacy.

Over 80 distinguished guests, including Nuno Sepúlveda, President of the CG Vilamoura Direction, and various local celebs, attended the ceremony to honour Sequeira’s immense contributions. The event concluded with a heartfelt, prolonged round of applause, celebrating Sequeira’s achievements and profound impact on Portuguese golf.

The Federação Portuguesa de Golfe celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to advancing golfing excellence. In line with its mission to foster leadership and effective team management within the golfing community, the federation proudly announces the “Leadership and Team Management” course.

Conducted in an exclusive e-learning format, the course spans 8 hours, scheduled on May 6th, 9th, 13th, and 16th from 20 to 22. Targeted towards club directors, academy managers, sports facility administrators, certified sports coaches, physical education teachers, and other sports professionals, the program aims to equip participants with essential skills for navigating the intricacies of leadership and team dynamics.

Under the guidance of Dr Luís Almeida, a distinguished expert in Sports Sciences and High-Performance Sports Coaching specializing in Sports Psychology, Psychological Coaching, and Sports Training, the course offers a unique opportunity to learn from a renowned figure in the field.
