Quinta do Vale – Weekly Competition

A windy day that proved to be very difficult for all players, as you may see on the scores. Anyway, it was great to see Quinta do Vale GC in such excellent conditions, regarding tees, fairways and greens, as we are referring to a new golf course that suffered some consequences of some construction mistakes during it’s 1st and 2nd year.
Most of the players used the ‘very original’ promotion for the buggies: 1 free buggy in every 50€ worth of shopping.
The winner was Barnie with 32 points and in second place Jeff with 28 points. The 9th hole was chose for the front-nine nearest-to-pin with par 3, 140mt, against the wind, where most players should use a driver, was won by Robin Prescot. Brendan won the nearest-to-pin on the back-nine on hole 16th.
Back to the clubhouse we had also the company of some members and friends that could not play and the afternoon went well around some drinks.
Two important notes: 1st a good one – Alison is back home and recovering well. 2st – And a sad one is John Star is still having health problems and still at home, being looked after by Gina. His contact number is 00351 289 314 108.
Next weekend, answering to an invitation made by Boavista GC members, Chez Carlos Golf Society has a match against them on Saturday at 11:20, ‘single match play’, followed by a presentation in their local bar. We antecipate a good social day.
See you all on Saturday.

Vale da Pinta – Weekly Competition

Another summer day in the Algarve!
We have to thank Pestana’s management for the excellent offer made to Chez Carlos Golf Society through Tee Times Golf Agency, at Pestana Vale da Pinta.
The course was in excellent condition, apart from one or two wet bunkers. It was very pleasant to see our member Robin Prescott, who brought 3 friends along with him, that enabled not just the usual individual stableford but also a joint team score 4 ball against 4 ball for the drinks. Coincidentally we finished with a draw both teams with 138 points, leading to some comments such as putt failures of 20 cm, etc. etc.
On individual scoring, we had in 1st place the guest, William McGivern with 41 points, in 2nd place Jeff Seymour with 38 points, who also won the nearest-to-pin on the 5th hole, and in 3rd place without a prize, Sinclair Armett and Robin Prescott, both with 35 points.
Back at the clubhouse, the usual chips with curry sauce and some pints made our day exceptional, although we regret the absence of Jeff Seymour, who had gone support his partner and one of our members, Alison in Faro hospital, who we all wish a speedy recovery.
Next week there is another good offer for the Golf Society, this time at Quinta do Vale GC, the Ballesteros’ designed course, on Saturday, 7th November at 12:09 tee off, members 35€ and guests 45€.
Hope to see you all there.

Society Members Query

Dear members there are some issues that I would like to introduce to you and have your comment:

1. What to do with the anual member fees (25€ each)that weren’t spent?
My suggestion is after deduced all expenses , put it behind the bar at Chez Carlos – Our Club House, as it is almost impossible to do some kind of event where we can get all members here at the same time.

2. Where to go on our anual January trip and when? Suggested Dates 21th to the 25th January in Lisbon, Estoril/Cascais area; play the golf courses around there ( Quinta da Marinha, Oitavos; Penha Longa and one other ).

3. Handicap system – during these years we have had a buffer zone of 32 to 36 points. I suggest a buffer zone of 35 / 36 points, to offer a chance to the players witch scores are around 30pt, to receive more shots and improve theyr chances.

4. Social / Competition with members of Boavista Golf Club. It seems that the best is 14/11. I would like to confirm and that members who wish to participate, please confirm in advance for the Boavista members can also organize themselves.
