The Algarve (Portuguese pronunciation: [aɫˈɡaɾv(ɨ)], from Arabic: الغرب‎, trans. Al-Gharb, meaning “The West”) is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal. It has an area of 5,412 square kilometres (2,090 sq mi) with approximately 451,005[2] permanent inhabitants, and incorporates 16 municipalities.

The region coincides with the Faro District, and has as its administrative centre the city of Faro, where both the region’s international airport (FAO) and public university (the University of the Algarve) are located. Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve‘s summer economy.

Production of food, which includes fish and other seafood, fruit, oranges, carob beans, figs and almonds, is also economically important in the region. The maximum recorded temperatures in the Algarve fluctuate between 25 °C (77 °F) in winter and 48 °C (118 °F) in summer, with the temperature almost never falling below zero in the winter months. The winter of 2008/2009 was exceptionally cold and wet. Temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F) were recorded for the first time in many years.

Centrally located and just a 2 minute walk from Estádio do Bessa in the city of Oporto, in the north of Portugal, this fine design hotel offers spacious and elegant rooms, decorated with a mix of wood, steel, and glass elements. It features a computer area, Spa, and indoor swimming pool.

The Spa has five saunas (of which one is of aromatics herbs and other is of salt), a pool of warm water with stone beds underwater and water jets (a vitality pool) and a winter garden with sofas where we’d like to spend the whole afternoon sleeping.

Of all body and facial treatments, with hot or oriental stones, there is the Balinese massage. This massage is done not with two but with four hands – you’ll have two therapists massaging your whole body for 50 minutes, using techniques like acupressure, shiatsu, reflexology and aromatherapy.

With the presence of major GT teams including Porsche, McLaren, and Ferrari, along with the roar of all the high-performance engines this event could well be irresistible.

This GT Open, now in its 5th season at this circuit, will also be hosting the European F3 and the Spanish Iber GT Championship, offering an exciting selection of races.

Restaurants on the river quayside are infamous for the selection and quality of fish they serve. Among this fine choice is the humble but very popular sardine. Traditionally cooked on charcoals and served up with a wedge of lemon on the side. Quite delicious.

The Portimão marina, adjoining the beautiful Praia da Rocha beach, offers a great choice of bars and restaurants to explore. Praia da Rocha is also, in its own right, a popular resort worthy of a visit and only a short walk away.
