Oceanico Pinhal, Vilamoura, 16th February 2013

We welcomed two new guests, David Brennan and Steve Jinks and the word on the street is that Steve and Raymond Yassim really enjoyed their game together and increased their vocabularies by a number of explicit words !!

At Oceanico Pinhal 5 players did not manage the 30 points barrier and gratefully received their bonus shot. Mary Strutt now off 19, Heather Ward 18, Raymond Yassim 17, David Brennan 13 and Ann Campbell 22.

Three players came in with 33 points – David Bowles, Will Cogan and Chris Milford, with Steve winning on a count back.

For the first time that I can remember we did not have a “Closest to the Pin” winner on the 5th hole, so we will carry the wine over to the next game.

Prize winners :

1st – Will Cogan: 33pts
2nd – Chris Milford 33pts
3rd – David Bowles 33pts

Steve Jinks took the Nearest the Pin on the 14th & Longest drive on the 16th. As he was flying back to the UK on Sunday he donated his two bottles of wine back to the Society and we will use these for the next game as well; nice one Steve – well done.

On Wednesday 20th we will be playing our first Roll Up game at The Old Course and a lot of interest has been shown for this event – so get get your names onto the board at Parky’s.

Oceanico Millennium, Vilamoura, 23rd February 2013

Seventeen players tuned up on a cold and blustery day at Oceanico Millennium Golf Club and thanks to the efforts of the course starter we were able to get the flights off earlier and back into the pub by 6.00pm The conditions certainly had an influence on the scores with only five players scoring above 30 points – Jane Nicholls, Peter Vaughan, Peter Densham, Will Cogan and David Bowles – well done to all of you.

Results:
1st – 35 Points – David Bowles (9)
2nd – 33 points – Peter Densham (16)

Chez Carlos Golf Society Annual Trip, 15th February 2013

Dear All
Eleven players took part in the Chez Carlos Annual Trip to the 5 star Montecastillo Hotel & Golf Resort at Jerez la Fontera. The outing was a great success at which members enjoyed superb golfing facilities, après golf craic, fine cuisine and fun partying. Such was the fun that members celebrated Siobhan’s birthday twice – on two separate days.
The golf was played on two of the best courses in Spain – Montecastillo, designed by Jack Niclaus, hosted the Volvo Masters five times. It is a fair test of golf for players of all levels of ability, built on the rolling Andalucían terrain but with everything clearly visible to players. Two rounds were played at Montecastillo.
One round was played at the equally impressive and stunning Arcos Gardens course. This course was built by Landmark Golf who are responsible for such world golf masterpieces as Kiawah Island. The fairways are wide and forgiving but still require accuracy as you approach beautiful contoured true and fast greens. There are very good practice facilities at Arcos Gardens including free pyramids of balls.
There were some very impressive on course performances – Daniela played all 3 competition rounds – her first ever 18 hole competitions. Her swing is one worth watching and there is no doubt that she will feature prominently in future Chez Carlos outings. Another dark horse was Annie Densham, who hit the ball consistently well but struggled a little on the contoured greens. We look forward to seeing her more often. But the undoubted star of the trip was another lady – Helena Burke who carried Jim around the first day’s team competition and then won in her own right on the following two days, taking the top prize of 2 nights for 2 people at a 4/5* Resort/Hotel with golf. The consolation prizes were greatly appreciated and included green fees at S. Lourenco, Laranjal, Salgados, Alamos and Quinta do Vale.
Certainly a Chez Carlos Annual Trip not to be missed.
