West Algarve Golf Courses – Morgado and Álamos

Álamos Golf Course,  is a beautiful par 71 course located between Portimão and Monchique, and definitely one of the best golf courses in the Algarve for your holidays . With no buildings in sight, this 18 hole golf course provides a very pleasant game of golf, combined with a nice, relaxing scenic experience.

alamosÁlamos golf course , offers wide, hilly greens, with quite the wavy fairway, it is surrounded by a nice forest filled with the local flora, orchads and even a vineyard! If you”re lucky you may even find traces of one of the region”s most famous inhabitants, the wild boar. In fact, this resort is known for its rich fauna and you will often come across one or more of its specimens. Morgado do Reguengo is a stunning 72 Par golf course located on the foots of Monchique mountains, in a country estate, just a short drive from the seaside town of Portimão and the fishing village of Alvor. When you play at Morgado be prepared to experience two different nine holes – one slightly flatter and the other undulating, displaying impressive views across the Monchique mountains.

morgadoThis is a walkable course, if you”ve got the stamina, but when the weather warms up you”ll want to enjoy the comfort of a buggy, in fact, accesses to the fairways are extremely well displayed. A round on this championship course is also a great chance to appreciate the surrounding nature, since it is an estate known for the richness of its fauna and flora, and also an opportunity to extend the day into the mountains and experience the real Algarve, it will be worth your while!

Oceanico Laguna Golf Course Review

Oceanico Laguna is a par 72 course located on the coast, within the popular Vilamoura Holiday Resort. Dating back to 1990, it was designed by North American architect Joseph Lee and has been object of a few improvements throughout the years.
This 6121 m course features very few trees and numerous lakes, which also serve as the perfect habitat for many different birds and amphibians like otters and terrapins. In fact, close by, taking advantage from its proximity with the ocean, developers have created an environmental nature park that welcomes many different, resident and migratory, aquatic birds.
Although built in quite open terrain, it has an impressive total of 79 bunkers, which combined with the usual strong winds and the aforementioned water hazards, set the perfect conditions for quite the interesting round of golf.
Laguna shares its clubhouse with the neighbouring Oceanico Millennium course and is only a couple of minutes away from Vilamoura center, which, being the sought-after holiday resort that it is, provides the ideal setting for the relaxing moments of your golfing holiday. After all, we are talking about the largest tourist luxury complex in the whole of Europe.

Oceanico Old Course named No1 Course in Portugal

January 5th 2012 – Oceânico Golf, the leading golf operator in the Algarve has begun 2012 with a bang, following the news that one of its most prestigious courses, the Oceanico Old Course, has been voted Portugal’s #1 course in the prestigious Today’s Golfer Travel Awards. The vote was carried out by readers of the UK’s most read golf publication, with the Oceânico Old Course emerging a convincing winner with an impressive 31% of the nominations. The roll of honour, which was announced this week, also saw Portugal’s Algarve coast named the ‘best-value’ golfing destination in continental Europe with 32% of the vote.
“This accolade is especially pleasing for the whole team at Oceânico Golf as it provides a fantastic springboard to kick off the New Year. To be nominated by readers of Today’s Golfer magazine is an honour and also a clear indicator that the Oceânico Old Course remains a firm favourite amongst travelling golfers,” commented Chris Stilwell, CEO of Oceânico Golf.

The award-winning Par 73, 6254m Oceânico Old Course is situated in the heart of Vilamoura a mere 20 minute drive from Faro airport. The stunning Frank Pennink designed parkland layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world. Often described as the Grande Dame of Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pine trees, over gently undulating natural terrain. Opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated in 1996 and remains to this day one of Europe’s finest layouts.

In addition to raising the Oceânico Old Course to new heights of quality, an attractive new clubhouse and adjacent putting green were also built at that time.
