Castro Marim Golf and the Quiet Side of the Algarve

 width=

In the eastern Algarve, far from dense resort developments, Castro Marim Golf & Country Club unfolds across open hills shaped more by wind and sun than by construction. This is Algarve golf in a quieter register, where the landscape sets the tone and the built environment steps back.

The course stretches over 27 holes, divided into the Grouse, Guadiana and Atlântico loops. Fairways are framed by native vegetation that acts as a natural corridor for wildlife. Partridges move in small groups along the rough. Rabbits and hares appear at first light. A wide range of birdlife circles above the greens and settles near the lakes. Regular players often recognise specific families of partridges that return to the same feeding areas morning and late afternoon.

One recent visitor stood out. A young Iberian lynx spent time within the perimeter of the course, briefly disappearing before returning accompanied by a female. Its presence, calmly observed and documented, underscored the ecological continuity of this part of the Sotavento.

Winter mornings bring frost across the fairways, and the first tee shots share space with wildlife searching for food. Around the water hazards, ducks and moorhens gather, adding movement to the still air. Wild boar occasionally pass through at night, an unwelcome but infrequent reminder that this is still shared terrain.

Castro Marim Golf also remains active on the competitive calendar, hosting events such as the Southern Circuit tournament of the National Senior Golf Association of Portugal. Yet even during competition, the defining feature is the setting itself. In this corner of the Algarve, golf and landscape coexist with minimal interruption.

Aroeira Collections at PGA Aroeira Lisboa Redefines Golf Luxury

Things are getting stylish down south. At PGA Aroeira Lisboa, the bar for golf living just got a major upgrade with the arrival of Aroeira Collections by Missoni, a bold new hospitality and residential project that blends luxury design, smart development, and world-class golf into one elegant package.

Set near the acclaimed PGA Aroeira No.2 course, this new venture brings more than just sharp architecture. It cements Aroeira’s place among Europe’s elite golf destinations, both for visiting players and long-term residents.

Missoni Meets the Fairway

The project is a joint effort between Norfin and Missoni, the legendary Italian fashion house known for its signature zigzag flair. Their creative stamp is all over this multi-use development, which will include:

  • A designer hotel

  • Upscale apartments

  • Modern townhouses and villas

All of it is thoughtfully nestled in the pine-scented landscape of Herdade da Aroeira, blending nature and design in that effortlessly chic way only the Italians manage to pull off.

What It Means for Golfers

Aside from turning heads on architectural merit alone, Aroeira Collections will significantly boost the area’s capacity to welcome golf travellers. More high-quality on-site accommodation means better stay & play packages, smoother logistics, and greater flexibility for partners, all leading to stronger tee time occupancy and happier guests.

And it doesn’t stop there. A brand-new clubhouse is on the way, scheduled for 2027, designed to serve both PGA No.1 and PGA No.2. Expect sleek, sustainable design that complements the natural surroundings, a fitting centrepiece for Aroeira’s next chapter.

Renovations at PGA No.2

While the new development is turning heads, PGA Aroeira No.2 is also getting some well-deserved attention of its own.

Improvements are in full swing:

  • Bunkers, tees, and greens are being renovated

  • Bridges across the course have been fully rebuilt

  • The irrigation system is being modernised for sustainability

  • Landscaping work is enhancing both playability and visual appeal

All works are on track for completion by the end of summer, ensuring players return to an even sharper and more enjoyable experience.

The Future Is Bright at Aroeira

Between the Missoni-designed residences, the course upgrades, and the future clubhouse, PGA Aroeira Lisboa is clearly doubling down on quality. Whether you’re a visitor, investor, or long-time fan of the fairways, this is one evolution worth watching, and playing.

Elevated Golf, Hospitality & More

On the ground, the changes are already taking shape. The golf experience, long known for its coastal charm and undulating fairways, is getting an operational upgrade. Meanwhile, food & beverage services and hotel hospitality are next in line for innovation, all paving the way for the grand opening of the JW Marriott Palmares in 2027, a name that carries no small amount of weight.

Add to that the upcoming launch of Signature Apartments, and it’s clear Palmares is playing the long game.

Key Staff Updates

Change isn’t just structural, it’s human. Marco Andrade, who previously led resort operations with a focus on golf, is taking his talents to Tróia Golf, another standout in the DETAILS portfolio.

Stepping into the role of Golf Director is Francesco Murdolo, now on the ground as of June 1st. Expect to hear more from him as he drives new visibility for what is, frankly, one of Europe’s most stunning golf destinations.

Meanwhile, Anthi Stefos is moving up the chain to a central role within DETAILS, ensuring that synergy across properties like Palmares, Tróia, and others runs like clockwork. She’ll be working alongside familiar names Diogo Durão and Joana Serra.

Finally, Emma Lester has joined the Palmares team, taking over Anthi’s former responsibilities. With a fresh perspective and proven chops, Emma’s arrival promises a seamless handover, and some added spark.

Looking Ahead

Palmares isn’t just aiming to keep pace. It’s setting the tempo. With an eye on service excellence, architectural elegance, and unforgettable golf, this is more than a resort, it’s a rising benchmark for golf holidays in portugal.

For the discerning traveller, the message is simple: if you haven’t played Palmares lately, you haven’t really played Palmares.
