Salgados Golf Course – New Signage

Salgados Golf CourseSalgados Golf Course, situated in one of the best-known regions of the Algarve, between Albufeira and Armação de Pêra, and is already a ‘postcard’ of Portuguese golf.

In fact, the proximity of the sea and the variety of lakes make this a very interesting test of golfing skills, different from other courses in the Algarve.
The 6,000 metre links, replete with water obstacles, is not very long, yet you will need all your skills to reach the greens. The accuracy of the drive is crucial for achieving good scores, thus making the course a pleasant experience, especially for technically-skilled player.

This setting provides golfers with a unique experience, since the Salgados Golf Course gives shelter, water and food to a number of bird species, some of them nearly extinct. The beach is within walking distance and the sea view from the course adds to this scenic golfing experience.

Recently the Salgados Golf Course has a new signage to make the course more welcoming and enjoyable for their visitors and players.

Alamos Golf Course – Tournament Review

Alamos Golf CourseAlamos Golf Course is a beautiful par 71 course, located with its sister course Morgado in its own vast area of rolling hilly countryside and fertile farmland, between Portimão and the lovely mountain town of Monchique. It is definitely one of the most enjoyable golf courses in the Algarve with several stunning views over the surrounding landscape .
The course provides a very pleasant game of golf. It offers wide, hilly greens, with a variety of sometimes very open and sometimes tight fairways to test driving ability! It is surrounded by a forest filled with the local flora, orchids and even a vineyard!

For naturalists Alamos Golf Course is a feast of birdlife to look out for and you may even find traces of one of the region’s most famous inhabitants, the wild boar.

As ever, the Chez Carlos Algarve Golf Society had a mixture of regular visitors and new faces who all professed to having had an enjoyable game. This was reflected in the scoring which was generally good.

Nearest the Pin at the very pleasant short 9th Hole was Ian Humphries (12), who also finished in 2nd place in the Men’s competition with 36 Points ahead of a number of players on 33 points. The winner though, was Tracey McCall (8) with 37 Points on the day.

Best Lady was Pam Williams (26) with 31 Points.

With Del’s kitchen closed as Joao has a short holiday, we returned to Chez Carlos where Felipe again provided nibbles enjoyed by all with an accompanying drink – or 2, or 3…..

Portugal – World Best Golf Destination 2013

WTA Portugal GolfAnd the  “ World Best Golf Destination 2013” goes to … Portugal .

The global gala this year , Portugal arrived with 15 nominations in top categories. Among the candidates that had already won the European level : the Algarve , Madeira  and Lisbon .

The ceremony of the World Travel Awards 2013 took place  in Doha, Qatar.

Several times considered the world’s best golf destination by specialized magazines  and international associations of tour operators ,  is entitled to this distinction by maintaining a quality full-proof .

Finally selected was Portugal –World Best Golf Destination 2013.

In total , five awards for Portugal , three more than last year edition in which prizes were awarded to TAP , Vila Joya and Conrad .

The World Travel Awards are considered the most important awards in the tourism industry worldwide and are distributed annually , initially in ten major regions of the planet. In the final event , are chosen the world’s best .
