Castro Marim – Weekly Competition

On a beautiful October sunny day, with hardly any wind, the Golf Society played on the East side of the Algarve – Castro Marim Golf Course.
We all took advantage of the excellent offer on the buggies, as the course is quite Hilly/rough/bumpy, so it was just handy.
The Castro Marim course has 27 holes and we played the new 9 holes – the Grouse route – and the old backnine, now called – Atlantic route – wich ends with a good par 5, where the players can be seen from the clubhouse balcony.
Will remain for history the 1st and 2nd places, both with 33 points, Carlos Ferreira and guest Linda Dixon.
Back to the clubhouse, we welcomed our new member Jim Drover, who decided to subscribe the Society membership on that day. Jim is a long time friend of Sinclair Armet and very familiar with all of us at Chez Carlos Golf Society.
Next week we will be playing Vale da Pinta golf course, with a fantastic offer for our members and guests.

Morgado – Weekly Competition

Is Pancho Villa back in town?
Morgado Golf Course, was in excellent condition, and provided another wonderful day of golf.
It was very nice to have the company of friends, like Roy Sallis, Sinclair Armet, Jim Russell, Tom Taylor, Jim Drover, Heather Ward ,Irene Roysalles and Alan Thearle, just to mention a few.
We teed off at 13:30 with a cheerful group of players, and it seemed like that the high scoring of the previous week inspired some players for this week.
Our member Chris Norman, maybe being inspired by his new lady, achieved an outstanding result of 48 stableford points. Knowing Chris, and having played golf with him for over 6 years, we rarely saw him exceeding 36 points, and that was the main reason for not hanging him at the club house. Hopefully on his return from Thailand, he will keep his inspiration, as he will be loosing 4 shots the next time he plays Chez Carlos Golf Society.
Tracey McCall, with 41 points ‘worked hard in the week’ and Carlos Ferreira, playing with is new handicap of 11 , with 38 points holding the 3rd place, were equally inspired.
Tony Sestito won the nearest-the-pin on the 17th hole measuring 145 mt.
Next week we will be playing Alamos at 09:50, again with the same price as Morgado. We would like to remind you all that the reservations made for 1 member + 1 guest are available on www.algarve-golfsociety.com at a special price. Login and Password are essential.

Millennium – Weekly Competition

On yet another perfect sunny day for golf, the Society Saturday Stableford Competition was played at the Millennium GC, Vilamoura, with a later than normal 13:52 tee off time.
A strong field of 17 players competed, on a course that has produced some fine Stableford points scores in the past, and yet again the winner played to better than his handicap to take 1st place.
In fairness, most players considered that the course has been in better condition, with several areas of tee, fairway and greens under repair or maintenance, giving a somewhat patchy affect, however this did not make for low points scoring with 10 players scoring 33pts or better.
The front nine played tougher than the back nine, thus giving the organizers the the job of countback situations for the 2nd 3rd and 4th place prizes.
Drinks and Nibbles followed at the Clubhouse ( Chez Carlos Restaurant, Vilamoura ) with Tracey McCall and Alison Anderson presenting the prizes to the winners.
Trevor Ward ( 14 Handicap) one of the original Society members with 37pts came first , with 3 players on 36pts vying for 2nd 3rd and 4th on the back nine and back six countbacks, these went, in order to Jeff Seymour ( 6 ), Michael Dickson ( 12 ) and John Constantine ( 18 ), with the former winning the nearest the pin prize at the 15th hole.
Thanks to all our Members and Guests who played, and for the travelling golfers amongst you, hope to see you all again soon.
