Tee Times Portugal Holidays – Azores Golf Holidays Easier Than Ever

Just recently (last saturday the 28th March) the prestigious news publication “The Guardian” published the “The Azores holiday guide” with travel tips on what to see plus the best bars, restaurants and places to stay. Unsurprisingly, this guide is published with the start of two new low cost air routes to Azores, from Portugal and UK.

Azores, a Portuguese volcanic archipelago of nine islands divided in three distinct groups, in the mid-Atlantic, somewhere between Lisbon and New York, feels like a world unto itself. But the two new direct low-cost air routes, operated by Easyjet and Ryanair, are about to bring the enchanted islands within easier reach.

The following amateur video, shot while on holidays by a tourist, gives you a better feel of the natural beauty of Azores that you may experience yourself while on Holidays.

So it’s easier and cheaper than ever to visit Azores and have an excellent Golf Break, while experiencing the pristine natural landscapes, enjoying your Golf at the Batalha Golf Club.

Batalha Golf Course is essentially flat in nature and equipped with excellent infrastructures. Set on a historic site (the name Batalha derives from the battle waged here between liberal and absolutist troops in the 19th century fighting for political control of the island of São Miguel), to the North, the course faces seawards, whilst in the East it looks towards the hills, with higher mountains to the South.

The fact that the course was built on volcanic rock created difficulties in its design and has resulted in a spectacular contrast between the green playing areas and the dry woods standing on rocky soil to the side of these. The holes are long and wide with large undulating greens, flanked by tall trees.

Tee Times Portugal Golf – 2015 Madeira Islands Open – Started on 20th to 22nd March 2015

The Madeira Islands Open BPI – Portugal – got its start postponed to today, Friday the 20th, due to the strong wind that was felt in Santo da Serra Golf Club, in Machico, Madeira.

Santo da Serra Golf Club – Above the bay of Machico, where the first Portuguese sailors disembarked. Here, golf and nature live in perfect harmony with sport and the environment. Be it competition or pleasure, the passions of those who play at Santo da Serra are always satisfied. The Machico and Desertas Courses are those usually used for the Madeira Island Open whilst the Serras Course, mildly flat, maintains the same level of play.

With the tournament reduced to 54 holes after strong winds prevented any play on Thursday, strong breezes again caused a delay on this morning with play starting one hour and 50 minutes later than planned.

Sweden’s Jacob Glennemo got play started at 9:40am, and with the first four groups having completed their opening hole, Javier Ballesteros – son of legendary five-time Major winner Seve – was the only player to have carded a birdie.

But it was Joachim B Hansen took the clubhouse lead during the first round of the Madeira Islands Open – BPI – Portugal with a four under par 68.

The 24 year old Dane, who lost his European Tour card last season after failing to register a top-ten finish, birdied two of his first three holes after starting on Santo da Serra Golf Club’s back nine.

This European Tour Professional Golf Tournament with 600.000, Euros in prize money was suspended from the start, and the decision to definitely postpone the opening day for today was communicated yeasterday at 2pm, by the race director, the Spanish Jose Maria Zamora.

“We had the misfortune of having presented a day with a lot of wind, with an average speed of 35/40 km/h and there were times with gusts that reached the 80 km/h. This causes the ball to move on the greens, to not be still, so you can not play in these conditions.” said Zamora.

The forecasts for today, the tournament director seemed to be more confident, “I am optimistic about the wind, will do much less wind tomorrow. It is expected rain, but if it does not rain much no problem. Also depends on the height of the clouds: if the height of the field, we have the same problem last year. But I am optimistic and I believe that Madeira and the Madeira Open deserve a good end. I am optimistic and we will try to do 54 holes, “praised José Maria Zamora.

The director also explained that, given the weather forecasts, the field can not be touched. “We choosed to not cut the greens: We were expecting this strong wind but still we can not cheat the wind and being so strong we had to decide that today we do not play.” Zamora said that cutting the greens would leave them faster and unplayable.

Let’s hope for better weather next days to come to a wonderful conclusion of this wonderful tournament at Santo da Serra Golf Club, in MadeiraPortugal.

Tee Times Algarve Holidays – Algarve Nature Week – From 11th to 19th April 2015

We think this is an excellent event week that we highly suggest you to complement your Golf Holidays in Algarve. While staying and enjoying Golf you have the chance to better know the Algarve and it’s wonderful nature, both inland and sea coast.

Algarve Nature Week is a promotional event entirely devoted to nature tourism in the Algarve. During the event, there will be special offers available on more than 90 outdoor activities and 8 accommodation facilities, some of which enjoy a rural setting. This aim of this new event, which will be held for the first time between the 11th and the 19th of April 2015, is to draw attention to the Algarve’s natural beauty. So, how will it work? Well, to start with, there will be plenty of action for everyone who enjoys active holidays in unspoiled surroundings. And when we say plenty, we really mean plenty!

For nine days the event will be offering walks, birdwatching, dolphin and whale watching, boat trips, cycle outings, horseback and donkey outings, and even airborne and underwater activities. All at friendly prices so that you can take advantage of (almost) all the activities on offer.

Golf in Algarve is also an excellent way of experiencing the nearby pristine nature with wonderful inland and sea coast landscapes, where the courses are beautifully integrated, regarding the fauna and the flora.

Organised by the Região de Turismo do Algarve (Algarve Tourism Board) with support from Turismo de Portugal and in partnership with seven different bodies, the event also includes an exhibition at Faro’s waterfront park, the “Parque Ribeirinho”. The exhibition will be taking place from the 17th to the 19th of April, and various companies that operate in nature tourism in the Algarve will be exhibiting. This is a great opportunity to get to know them and discover the programme of experiences that they have created for you. Admission is free.
