Designed by little-known Spanish architect Juan Ligues, this 18-hole, par-71 golf course is short but very tight in places. This charming course will not only test your golfing skills but thanks to some strategically placed hazards, it will also test the patience to the limit. The Links course at the Alcaidesa Golf Resort orignally opened in 1990 then remodeled in 1999 to improve its playability by widening fairways and ironing out some of the more severe undulations on the greens. It is an undulating cliff top seaside course that enjoys stunning views over the Mediterranean, the Straits of Gibraltar and the distant Atlas Mountains in North Africa. The course has an out and back routing with the first four holes heading towards the shoreline and the mile-long beach. Holes 5 to 14 then play out along the coast before the fairways head back inland to complete the round in front of the clubhouse. The golf course has been totally refurbished in 2012, but have kept Robert Trent Jones Jr originall design. Mijas Los Lagos is a course with soft slopes, wide fairways, and few forest trees obstacles, but defended by many bunkers and not less than nine lakes. The greens are large and flat with sensitive undulations and the wide tees can be accommodated to reduce or enlarge the challenge of the golf course.Mijas Los Lagos is considered a course suitable for holiday golfers, being one of the most famous golf courses of the Costa del Sol.(...) Water hazards guard the 3rd and 14th greens. The 14th is at the maximum limit of what is allowed for a par 3 at 233 metres. The par 5 11th is the longest hole at 524 metres. La Cala Resort is one of the largest and most exclusive resorts in southern Europe with three 18 hole golf courses, the only David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Spain and a high standard Par 3 six hole golf course. The natural features of the La Cala terrain have been used to challenging effect by the renowned golf course architect, Cabell B. Robinson. The three golf courses are carefully maintained to ensure they are playable all year round. The North Course (now renamed Campo America) is perhaps more difficult than the shorter South (Campo Asia) but both demand great accuracy from the tee and careful club selection. Meanwhile, the third golf course, Campo Europa, uses the River Ojen in making the course distinctive. The layout allows for plenty of water hazards. The golf course is not too difficult to play with its wide fairways particularly on the back nine.
