Festival Sons do Atlântico

Portugal Holidays: Atlantic Sounds Festival (Sons do Atlântico) at Ferragudo, Lagoa, Algarve – Portugal on 22-24th of May 2014.

This 3-day Atlantic Sounds World Music Festival will be held in the beautiful fishing village of Ferragudo, Lagoa, Algarve. With the event being aptly described as where traditional meets modern, the eclectic selection of music will include traditional and folk music, jazz and blues. The lineup of artists includes Ricardo Ribeiro singing Fado, urban Portuguese folk music. ‘Kumpania Babel’, a Portuguese folk band, and ‘Chambao’, known for their Flamenco music intermixed with electronic sounds.

Venturing beyond the village of Ferragudo, the city of Lagoa offers an open and friendly welcome for the modern-day tourist along with the beautiful feeling and atmosphere of old world Portugal. Set back slightly from the coast, but with a rich offering of beaches just a short car-drive away, many of these beaches have the prestigious Blue Flag designation. Offering beach users the reassurance that they are clean, safe places to use.

With a fine selection of golf courses in the area, for golfers attending the festival it could be an opportunity to play at least one game of golf during their holiday in Portugal. Silves Golf Course, just inland from the city of Lagoa, offers a challenging game with spectacular scenery. Also near-by are even more prestigius golf courses, named after their famous designers’, like Oceânico Faldo and Oceânico O’Connor.

Lagoa city and municipal area is ideally situated in the heart of the Algarve, so is within easy reach from many places along the coast. If however the desire was to stay local while attending the music festival the well know Portuguese Tee Times Tour Operator offers through their website various options of accommodation, such as: Monte Santo Resort, Tivoli Carvoeiro and various Pestana Hotels. All are close by and all offer an extensive choice of leisure and sport activities, along with spectacular sea views to wake up to.

Portugal Golf – Chez Carlos Golf Society Tournament – A rescheduled event saw the Chez Carlos Golf Society move from Palmares Golf Course to O’Connor Jnr. Easter time always sees an influx of players looking for a game and it was no different on this occasion with many keen for a competitive game amongst friends.

Designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr., this Algarve Golf course complements the neighbouring Oceanico Faldo Course and also takes full advantage of being situated in a fertile valley. Its various water features, both lakes and watercourses that are spread throughout the entire course, demand accuracy and test from all golfers, and the rich topsoil has been skillfully landscaped and planted with mature palm trees, affording a lush, ornamental setting like an extensive oasis.

This course has tees that are generally connected to the fairways, but its greater overall distance, the water hazards and big greens provide its challenge.

An ensemble gathered together under blue skies to take on this challenge. Perfect conditions allowed for some good scoring. Fine performance by Fraser once again even with a blob on the last hole.

Results:

1st: Fraser Graham (h/cap 5): 37pts
2nd: Trevor Coleman: 35pts
