The VIRIATVS Golf Cup took place at Montebelo Golf, under the direction of Bruno Esteves, and was played in a texas scramble format. The 2025 edition featured 40 teams of two players, bringing competitive energy and a festive atmosphere to the course. Weather conditions held steady throughout the day, with only light showers arriving at the very end of play.

In the Net division, the pair Nuno Marques and Gonçalo Andrade secured first place with 45 points. Elisabeth Noble and Gay Adamsom shared the runner-up position with Bruno Melo and Carlos Tinoco, both finishing on 44 points. Other strong scores included Alberto Amaral and José Gonçalves, Carlos Alves and Leonel Seixas, and Esmeraldo Bento and Álvaro Tavares, all with 43. Just behind on 42 points were Agostinho Lopes and Jacinto Pinto, Paulo Domingues and Manuela Domingues, and Jaime Fernandes and Paulo Neves.

The Gross competition was won by Bruno Melo and Carlos Tinoco with 34 points. They were followed by Nuno Marques and Gonçalo Andrade in second, and José Santos and Carlos Miranda in third.

Adding extra prestige to the event, professional golfer Daniel Rodrigues, currently Portugal’s top-ranked player and standout at the recent Open de Portugal, took part in the tournament alongside his brother. Rodrigues also addressed participants, offering words of encouragement for the sport.

The day concluded with a post-tournament reception, an excellent buffet, and a generous prize draw, rounding off the VIRIATVS Golf Cup in memorable fashion.

The 7th and penultimate tournament of the National Order of Merit, organised by the Associação Nacional de Seniores de Golfe de Portugal (ANSGP), was played today at Quinta do Vale Golf Course in Castro Marim. The event gathered around 70 players from across the country, with delegations from the north and centre of Portugal standing out. Conditions were bright and sunny, though strong winds persisted throughout the day.

The course, designed by Severiano Ballesteros, was presented in excellent condition and provided a demanding test for competitors.

In the Seniors Net category, António Mimoso secured victory with 37 points, followed by Marcel Nico with 35. The Gross winner was James Thomson with 30 points, ahead of Paulo Azevedo on 22.

Among the Super Seniors, Vítor Saramago topped the Net leaderboard with 40 points, with João Poeira Oliveira second on 36. Steve Juster claimed the Gross title with 28 points.

The Master Seniors division (75 years and older) saw Aníbal Ponte win Net with 36 points, followed by Luís Gama with 32. Gunnar Vikstrom took Gross honours with 23 points.

In the Women’s competition, Elvira Gama won the Net with 38 points, ahead of Maria José Pinto with 34. Pinto went on to win the Gross category with 22 points, followed by Ann de Jongh with 20.

The 13th edition of the Sporting Golf Summer Open brought together 92 players, families, and guests for two days of competition and camaraderie at the renowned Amendoeira Golf Resort in Silves. Held in early August, the event drew golfers from 32 clubs across Portugal, from the north and centre to Lisbon and the Algarve, as well as several international guests, particularly from Italy.

The tournament kicked off with a full round on the O’Connor Course, played in excellent conditions under a hot summer sun. Following the first day’s play, participants gathered for a convivial dinner and prize ceremony, with entertainment provided by live music from Zélia Almeida. The evening ended with the traditional tômbola, where 83 prizes, ranging from golf gear and fine wines to travel vouchers, were raffled off. A special painting donated by club member José Reis was awarded to Fernando Guerra in a final draw.

The second day saw the competition move to Amendoeira’s Pitch & Putt course, where players tested their short game on the resort’s diverse sports complex. The two-day format offered a mix of standard and short-form golf, creating an inclusive atmosphere ideal for both serious competitors and recreational players.

Tournament Highlights

In the main O’Connor event, Rogério Beatriz won the Net category with 41 points, followed by Manuel Trindade and Fernando Flores Santos (both with 38). The Gross category was won by Bernardo Silva Carvalho with 29 points.

In the women’s division, Maria Pereira topped the Net leaderboard with 36 points, while Arminda Von Kaenel claimed the Gross title with 27 points.

Among international guests, Italian players stood out:

• Matteo Balzer won Net (37 points), with Pedro Jerónimo and Luís do Pão following.

• Walter Faustini dominated the Gross category with 38 points.

• In the women’s guest division, Sonia Dubois and Teresa Melo Cabral shared the top Net score of 27 points, with Carlotta Balzer winning Gross with 21.

On the final day’s Pitch & Putt event, Paulo Azevedo claimed victory with 53 strokes, trailed by Paulo Jorge Alves (55) and Maurício Farinha (57). In the guest bracket, José Melo Cabral matched the winning score of 53, edging out Domingos Sousa Silva with 55.

As is tradition with Sporting Golf tournaments, players were also awarded for longest drives and precision shots across all 18 holes of the O’Connor layout, adding an extra layer of excitement and technical challenge.
