Oporto Mid-Amateur Golf Tournament 2025

The 3rd tournament of Portugal’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Golf Circuit 2025 wrapped up this past weekend at the historic Oporto Golf Club (Par 71) in Espinho, showcasing standout performances from both rising and seasoned players. Among the winners were Pedro Sá Lima, Mark Mance, and Marta Lampreia, all of whom topped their respective categories with grit and consistency.

If you’re planning a golf visit to the Porto area, consider exploring our Porto Golf Courses, home to some of the most historic and scenic layouts in Portugal. To make the most of your trip, our Car Hire and Transfers ensure smooth, convenient access to the fairways and beyond.

Known for its rich legacy, Oporto Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Portugal and one of the oldest in continental Europe, a fitting backdrop for a tournament that celebrates both competitive spirit and the timeless appeal of the game. The Mid-Amateur & Senior Circuit provides an essential space for players outside the professional sphere to continue competing at a high level, maintaining the camaraderie, skill, and mental sharpness that define the sport.

With over 70 participants competing across various divisions, the tournament reflected the strength of Portugal’s golfing community and the depth of talent at the amateur level. From tense playoffs to steady comebacks, the weekend offered no shortage of compelling golf.

Sá Lima and Mance Dominate the Men’s Field

Representing Vale Pisão, Pedro Sá Lima shot a second-round 72, the lowest round of the day, to secure the gross victory by four strokes. With a total of 147 (+5) over two rounds, he edged out Francisco Silva (Quinta do Perú) and Mark Mance (Oitavos), both finishing at 151 (+9).

Mark Mance, who had already won gross and senior honours at the season opener at Quinta do Vale, returned to form by clinching the Senior Men’s title, narrowly ahead of Miguel Lourenço (ACP Golfe).

Lourenço led after round one with a 74, but a second-round 78 left him tied for fourth with José Pedro Patacão (Vale Pisão) at 152 (+10).

Marta Lampreia Seals Victory in Sudden Death

In the women’s competition, Marta Lampreia (Quinta do Perú) delivered a clutch performance. Tied at 166 (+24) with Diana Pacheco (Paredes) after two rounds (80–86 and 81–85 respectively), she secured the win on the first sudden-death playoff hole, the par-5 18th, with a birdie.

It was a hard-fought victory over Pacheco and Sofia Paiva (Estoril), who had won the first two tournaments of the circuit and finished just one shot out of the playoff at 167 (+25).

Lampreia’s win gave her the double: both gross and senior titles in the women’s division.

Portugal’s Mid-Amateur Golf Scene Grows in Strength

The Mid-Amateur & Senior Circuit is proving to be a valuable platform for competitive golf beyond the junior and elite amateur ranks. Events like this, staged at legacy venues such as Oporto Golf Club, help nurture talent, maintain competitive spirit, and spotlight Portugal’s deep pool of golfing enthusiasts.

The next tournament in the series is set for 27–28 September at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf Resort.

Golf Meets Glamour at Costa del Sol’s Gasol Invitational

This June, the sun-soaked fairways of Costa del Sol will play host to one of Spain’s most high-profile charity golf events, the Gasol Foundation Golf Invitational 2025. Held from June 19–22 across prestigious courses in La Línea and San Roque, the event brings together global sports icons like Pau Gasol, Rafa Nadal, and Jorge Garbajosa in support of children’s health and wellbeing.

The Invitational not only highlights Spain’s ongoing commitment to promoting sport and wellness, but it also casts a spotlight on the Costa del Sol as a global hub for high-profile golf tourism. With perfect weather, elite facilities, and international recognition, the region continues to attract both pros and holidaymakers alike. For those planning their next golf escape, this event underscores why the Costa del Sol remains a top-tier choice.

While the tournament itself is invitation-only, its prestige and profile shine a bright spotlight on the region. For golf holidaymakers, it’s yet another reason to visit a destination that continues to blend sun, sport, and style like nowhere else in Europe.

A Celebrity-Fuelled Showcase for Golf in Southern Spain

Organised by the Gasol Foundation, an organisation founded by Pau and Marc Gasol, the Invitational supports programs focused on fighting childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles through sport.

The event features top-tier hospitality, live entertainment, and appearances from some of Spain’s most admired athletes. And while you may not share a tee box with Rafa Nadal, you can certainly share in the atmosphere. The event’s venues, including San Roque Club, are open to visitors throughout the year, and rank among the Costa del Sol’s finest courses.

Costa del Sol: Where Events and Holidays Intersect

What makes this tournament especially relevant to golf travellers is its setting. The Costa del Sol isn’t just a scenic destination, it’s Europe’s golf capital, with more than 70 courses spanning seaside layouts, hillside challenges, and luxury resorts.

Events like the Gasol Foundation Invitational elevate the region’s profile globally, drawing attention to the quality, atmosphere, and infrastructure that make it ideal for golf tourism.

Whether you’re chasing birdies or just looking to relax poolside after a morning round, the Costa del Sol offers something for every golf traveller, from winter sun seekers to summer family break bookers.

A Destination Worth Booking Year-Round

With long daylight hours, reliable flights, and championship-level facilities, southern Spain remains one of the most consistent performers on the golf travel map. June’s tournament simply adds another layer to the region’s reputation.

Algarve Golf Tourism Campaign 2025

As summer 2025 approaches, the Algarve is stepping up its efforts to remain Europe’s premier golf holiday destination. With international travel demand rebounding and competition for tourism heating up, the region is taking no chances. In May, the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA) launched a far-reaching initiative, the Algarve Golf Tourism Campaign 2025 to position the Algarve not just as a sunny escape, but as a strategic, year-round destination for high-quality golf travel.

The Algarve is already home to some of the most celebrated golf courses in Europe, from the dramatic cliffs of Vale do Lobo to the lush layouts of Quinta do Lago. But this campaign goes beyond showcasing fairways, it’s about enhancing the full travel experience. That includes upgraded infrastructure, immersive media coverage, and international partnerships designed to create long-term value for both visitors and the region.

This proactive initiative includes high-impact fam trips, press tours, and airline partnerships aimed at boosting awareness and bookings among discerning travellers from key markets, including the United States, Canada, and across Europe.

And for a seamless journey, don’t forget your Car Hire and Transfers, we’ll get you from airport to first tee with ease.

Strategic Engagement With Global Travel Markets

ATA’s campaign prioritises immersive experiences for travel professionals and media representatives. Through a series of fam trips, organised with major airlines like United, Norwegian, EasyJet, and PLAY, select guests will tour the Algarve’s golf courses, resorts, coastal villages, and luxury amenities.

Simultaneously, a group of European travel journalists is visiting the region to capture authentic stories highlighting the Algarve’s charm, golf offering, and cultural depth. Their coverage will appear across print, digital, and broadcast channels in key countries such as Germany, France, Austria, Poland, and Switzerland.

Golf Tourism Takes the Lead

A cornerstone of the May 2025 initiative is the Algarve’s presence at the IAGTO European Convention (EIGC), a flagship event for global golf travel professionals. Here, the region is showcasing its new itineraries, sustainable course management practices, and tailored golf-and-lifestyle packages.

With its year-round mild climate, championship-level courses, and deeply embedded hospitality culture, the Algarve remains one of the most reliable and rewarding choices for international golf travellers.

A Shift Toward Sustainable, High-Value Travel

This campaign isn’t just about numbers. ATA’s strategy is built around quality over quantity. The focus is on travellers who appreciate sustainability, culture, and immersive experiences, not just a quick beach break.

By targeting a mix of luxury seekers, wellness travellers, digital nomads, and golf tourists, the Algarve is positioning itself as a multidimensional destination that thrives year-round, not just during the summer high season.

It’s also ensuring that lesser-known towns and rural areas benefit from tourism, not just the iconic coastal hubs, creating a more balanced and authentic experience for visitors and locals alike.

Looking Ahead

From high-level airline collaborations to thought-leading event participation, the Algarve is sending a clear message in 2025: it’s ready for the next wave of thoughtful, global golf travellers.
