Huelva Golf Tourism Welcomes Global Partners

Huelva has taken another step forward in positioning itself as a key golf destination in Spain. Between 14 and 19 September, the province welcomed around 30 international tour operators from the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, Iceland, Turkey, the USA and Canada for a professional networking event designed to strengthen Huelva golf tourism.

The initiative was organised by the Diputación Provincial de Huelva through its agency Destino Huelva, with support from the Junta de Andalucía, IAGTO and the local golf courses association. The working sessions were held at the CECA in Ayamonte, with additional events staged at the Club de Golf Isla Canela. Participants had the chance to learn about the region’s complete golf and hospitality offer, which today includes six golf clubs with eight courses, plus a wide range of specialised hotels along the Andalusian coast.

Local leaders stressed the role of golf as Huelva’s leading off-season tourism product. In 2024, golf generated more than one million overnight stays, representing about 25% of total visitor nights in the province. This impact is not only economic but also social, as the sport drives year-round demand and creates stable jobs.

Sustainability was another theme. A recent report on water usage showed that irrigation for golf courses accounts for just 1.1% of the province’s total water consumption, while every cubic metre of water used generates an economic return of €147, with 89% of that benefit reaching other sectors. These findings reinforce golf’s value as both an economic driver and a responsible user of natural resources.

Authorities also highlighted the importance of ongoing institutional collaboration. For years, the Diputación de Huelva, the Junta de Andalucía, and the local golf association have worked together to design and promote campaigns aimed at both international tour operators and direct golfers from Spain and beyond. Much of this promotional effort is channelled through national golf circuits and annual events that consistently attract significant numbers of visitors.

With six clubs, a growing reputation for sustainability, and international visibility strengthened by events like this, Huelva is firmly establishing itself as one of Spain’s most attractive golf holiday destinations.
