Why I didn’t rate a 10 was because we were quite disappointed with the driving range not allowing any clubs over a 9 iron and the fact that we had to pay for the practice balls. ABER der Rest fällt unter Top Golfplatz: Von den Fairways über die Grüns bis zum Clubhaus kann man beim besten Willen nicht viele Kritikpunkte finden. Sehr positiv! -**- Those who want to warm up and play in thoroughly will be a little disappointed here, as the driving range is only authorised up to 9 iron. BUT the rest falls under top golf course: from the fairways to the greens to the clubhouse, you can't find many points of criticism with the best will in the world. Very positive!.

Wir waren das letzte flight heute und hatten 3 3er flight vor und sodaß wir leider an jedem Loch warten mußten und nur bis Loch 16 gespielt haben. Leider hatten wir die Greenkeeper die ganze Zeit hinter und vor uns, was von der Geräuschkulisse echt unangenehm war, schlimmer als das warten um weiterspielen zu können. Die Jungs vom Cartservice sind super nett, der Platz ist super schön. Werden dort wieder spielen. -**- We were the last flight today and had 3 flights of 3 in front of us, so unfortunately we had to wait at every hole and only played up to hole 16. Unfortunately we had the greenkeepers behind and in front of us the whole time, which was really unpleasant from the background noise, worse than waiting to be able to continue playing. The guys from the cart service are super nice, the course is really beautiful. We will play there again.

It’s one of those courses that you have to play if staying in the Algarve, as the 16th is the one in all the photos! Clubhouse and the facilities are excellent but it’s always a slow round here! Buggy is recommended as there are some long walks between greens and tee boxes. We played as a group of 10 and was allowed to play as a 4,3,3 two days later on the Ocean we were paired up with 2 others to make 3 fourballs. Those who were playing the course for the first time were impressed.

The best thing I can say is the staff were lovely and very helpfull. The course for the money they charge was in very poor condition,the bunkers should have been out of play loosing ball plugged in them, new sand probably filled that day. On the day we played the Royal there was a machine digging out a bunker at the 6th green one of our group hit his ball into that area which was scooped up by the digger never to be seen again.

If you really must play Vale Do Lobo then be prepared for the noisiest round of golf you've ever had. Standing on the 1st tee of the Royal Course is like teeing off at the Ryder Cup. 20+ other groups standing around talking/shouting, Green Staff wizzing by on mowers/machines and then every hole after that either has building work or noisy gardeners present at every adjacent villa. It was not relaxing at all. Top that off with greens that were well overdue a cut and I was extremely disappointed. If you're having a drink on the outside sofas afterwards do not look between the cushions, disgusting. Far better experiences to be had for far less money. Style over substance.

17 holes with narrow fairways between homes, parking lots, streets and one spectacular ocean par 3. Well manicured golf course but soggy slow greens. Some construction activity on a couple of holes, but workers are very respectful of the players. Oh yes, lets not forget crazy rules: women also have to wear collared shirts and you cannot play from the black "member" tees - chose forward yellows ir champion whites. Score cards do not have course rating, so you cannot calculate

There were small bottles of water supplied in the compartment but were too warm, almost hot, to enjoy. I understand the ice machine has been broken for around 2 months. How can a business as high end as Val do Lobo not purchased a new machine. The golf was uncomfortable due to not having suitable chilled drinks. We were all grateful that the caddy cart had chilled drinks when we were lucky enough to come across it on the course.

Very enjoyable round of golf. Course was in great condition. I was first out so no slow play to deal with and no need to repair others pitch marks. I had never played Royal before but found it a good challenge and interesting without any of those squeezed in/ made up holes you often find. Playing off Yellow it isn’t the longest but it does reward good play. Would thoroughly recommend. Excellent friendly and helpful staff and also maintenance team around the course.

As for the pitch, if you decide to go and play at Vale Do Lobo, I would say to play the Ocean pitch. Since, the field is in better condition than the Royal. The Royal is currently drier and some parts are a bit damaged.

We were on a twilight price and even teed off on the 1st early, but we ended up playing 16th in the dark and missing 17th and 18th entirely. Yet again the Algarve courses are packing too many people in and ruining the experience as the wait is too long for almost every shot. I heard several times during our holiday that a round should be 4 hours 20 minutes. That is a ridiculous time for a game of golf for 4 people. I can do it at my local club in 3 hours 30 minutes. There is never any check on a player's handicap, not their etiquette round the green. We saw a number of players who clearly were not good enough to play these courses. We have got to the point where we won't be coming to the Algarve again, as the price is now just ridiculous and the experience is ruined by really slow play.

Vale do Lobo Royal Course was in a fantastic condition, greens were true, fairways mostly immaculate. We did find it confusing on a couple of holes finding our way to the next hole. We were told we had to have a buggy but saw some player on the course with trolleys. The club house is very modern. Reception was not that friendly but all the rest were extremely helpful. Pricey to play the course but we felt it was worth it. Tried to book direct and very few tee times available so booked with teetimes.pt with no problem at all.

Pity the Ocean was closed for the day but the Royal was a good course all the same. Greens were decent , some fairways could have been better maintained, and pathways between holes need attention. Tees were disappointing as hardly any of them were level which is unusual !. Great clubhouse area and ambiance and food afterwards. All in a good experience but the worst of the 3 courses we played this week. Old Course and Laranjal both far better. Laranjal in particular so.

The only negative is that my wife and I were paired up in a four-ball with 2 members of a visiting party of 6 low handicapper’s who had asked to play in 2 groups of threes. Compared to the Ocean course, the Royal is better in all respects. Paths, fairways, greens are all in good condition. We did find the pace of play slow being 2:20 for the outward 9, but 2:40 for the back nine. We only saw one course Marshall who did not appear to be either concerned or doing anything to assist. Overall an enjoyable round on a challenging course.

I do feel that course marshals need to be more evident to alleviate the problem of slow play and high handicap golfers holding up groups behind.

Royal is an iconic course but also very playable. The tees and fairways are in good condition and the greens are excellent and not shaved to the last mm making them impossibly quick. The staff are both professional and helpful, the Marshall started us as a two ball off the second tees so that we would not be behind two slow four balls. Hence the round was quick and uninterrupted: real millionaires golf. Worth the premium!

Bon putting green. Le chipping green est loin de la club house, et le driving range laisse à désirer. Club house sympa, pro shop, etc… tout est bien. Les départs du trou signature (#16) ont été reconstruits en terrasse, doivent ouvrir prochainement. Un des emblèmes du golf en Algarve: A jouer!

Vale do Lobo Royal overall in very good condition (mid May21) Especially the greens which are in the best possible condition at this time of the year when Poa annua is growing seed heads. The greens were rolled to smoothen the surface and give speed and true roll. Buggy battery hardly made it to the 18 holes (not fully charged at start) Nice club house and facilities. But, not very easy to find the golf desk. Need a sign at the roundabout for direction from the 16th green to the 17th tee. Some beautiful holes. Playable by all levels (except the par 3 9th).

I had forgotten how good a course this is. It's short off the yellows but there are so few bad holes. The back nine is an absolute pleasure and the run from 3-7 isn't that bad either. Due to unforseen circumstances, the size of our party halved on the eve of the event and the pro shop were so accommodating in terms of ensuring we received a refund for those players. Service in Spikes bar well improved as well! If you get a chance, use the Royal Spa after your round (40 EUR for 2) for a bit of well deserved relaxation!

VDL Royal remains a decent track but it has been overtaken by many of its new neighbours. Pace of play was too slow and this is caused by the quality of golfers allowed on the course. Two of the three ball in front of us could hardly hit the ball and when one of their first tee shots went at right angles into the car park something should have been said. It’s all about making money! Driving down streets between green and next tee was a bit strange. The 16th is a fantastic hole but not sure the other 17 make this one hole worth it

The Vale Do Lobo Royal course was very nice. It was tight in places and if you are a little wild off the tee, it may prove to be very penalizing. That being said, the layout was enjoyable and it proved a good challenge. Unfortunately when we played it was very wet as Portugal had encountered unprecedented rainfall so we can completely understand why it was a little wet. The facilities are very good, reception, changing rooms, putting green were all very good, but the driving range is restricted to a maximum of a 9 iron which is not great. The waiting staff were not very accommodating as we found ourselves asking 3 times for menus for food, but when we got the food, it was very tasty and filling. Overall the course was tricky, challenging and unfair at times, but as a resort or package course outside of the vilamoura courses, I would recommend it after the ocean course.

Auffallend ist das gepflegte dichte Fairway, das auf eine Fairwaybewässerung hinweist. Leider sehen sich immer wieder Golfer außerstande, Divots wieder einzusetzen. Die Grüns sind ebenfalls gut gepflegt. Das Puttinggrün hatte allerdings nichts mit den schnellen Grüns auf der Runde gemein. Diejenigen Golfer, die auf ein Buggy verzichten, müssen eine gute Kondition haben. Die Topographie des Platzes weißt einige Steigungen auf. Die Sanitäranlagen sind auf dem neusten Stand, so dass auch das Duschen zum Genuss wird.

I have always said I would never return to this place due to the attitude of the staff, we only came back because one of our party had not played here before. Pleasantly surprised by what few staff we met, greatly improved attitude or did we get lucky? Course as good as ever, may even return again or maybe that would be tempting fate.

Always have liked this course, if you are off your game it kills you, and there are still holes on it that after a dozen tries, I have yet to play well! Quick greens, which I like, but the fringes/first cut are much springier than in the UK, making it v difficult to get reliable contact.

Only issue was that as we booked as a 2 ball we were paired with two others at Val do Lobo. This turned out to be an 80 year old couple, so progress was frustrating and slow. The course really ought make an effort to join together similar ability golfers

From the great reception at the check in to the assistance from the starters etc. The Royal course was in pretty good condition, and the greens were true and fast enough without being too fast. We played VdL twice and it was good. The first round was soured by our tee time being delayed by two hours and we felt that the staff, especially at reception, were not exactly apologetic. Tee Times were extremely apologetic, and sorted us out complimentary buggies for our next two rounds - something that we felt the course should have offered. We enjoyed the Royal Course but felt that the Ocean was better.
