This was our second time playing Da Ria, the course is very good with two very different nine holes, the back nine are very picturesque and also quite challenging with the front nine being slightly up and down par 4s. Don’t like to be too critical as they are all nice to play. The only downside to our day was the pace of play which took us 5h 30mins , we were waiting on every shot! We will definitely be playing again!

When we went to the Starter he saw we were just a 2 ball, so he spoke to members who were going off the first and arranged for us to go off the first between members groups, as he felt we would get round easier and quicker.

We booked 2 games however when we visited the golf course for booking for Quinta de Cima on 14th Oct the golf course didn't have any details of the booking. Thankfully they managed to find us a space and we teed off on the 10th Hole. When we went to play Quinta de Ria on 16th we went out after a 4ball from Germany who were very slow. It would have been an advantage to have a ranger out checking for slow play.

The course is nice, lovely views of the sea and some really nice holes with water features. However if you put your ball off the fairway, it’s impossible to find. I’ve never seen rough like it. Great course. Friendly patient staff. Good rental golf set. Walked 18-holes. Narrow course with water hazards. Marshalls always around to check pace of play. We were 4-ball and those 2-ball behind keep catching up and we had to let 2 groups pass so as we can enjoy our game in a new unfamiliar course. Buggies and golfers should be provided with sand canisters to patch up divots so the fairways can be better maintained. Similar to the putting green ball marks should be repaired to allow others a better golfing experience. Thanks for the great time.

Golf Course was very patient as they waited till late for us to return as it turns dark by 4:45pm on December we played through the dark the last 2-holes which took some time looking for our ball. TM RBZ rental set was in good condition and was forgiving. Course was busy and Marshalls were around to make sure of timing. Great ocean views on the last few holes. Felt that Club should provide sand canisters on buggy to repair divot on course(too many patches and some times the ball lands in one) and golfers do not repair ball marks on green. Golf course may have to consider as these may make upkeeping easier and happier golfing experience.

Lovely golf course, but very busy and slow at times. We heard a comment that gave us the impression that they used to have course marshalls to keep players moving but not now. We had an issue where we had booked our golf through you - no problem. But then we booked a buggy separately through you - i had an email confirming the buggy and payment to you for it. The course was excellent with very good greens. However playing behind a very slow 4 ball was not good. No marshalling was evident but when I complained in the clubhouse halfway round, the staff did come out & solve the problem (after 3 goes at it) I'm afraid handicap certificates & golfing competence/etiquette needs to be adhered to even on holiday. We did enjoy the course & will go back.

Botj Ria and Cima are excellent courses, good lay out, nice scenery and everything, except for the greens. They are now totally overgrown with this weed that I do not know the English word for, but it is quite common. They will have to close the courses for a period of time to get rid of it and that they probably cannot afford. Too bad though, because that would have made the courses fantastic. My guess is that to week end players from Germany, it makes no difference.

sTAFF WELCOMING AND STARTED US AT THE 10TH TO AVOID CONJESTION AT THE 1ST DUE TO A LOCAL COMPETITION. COMPLETED THE FIRST 9 HOLES IN RECORD TIME BUT WE HIT THE BUFFER WHEN WE CAUGHT UP WITH THE TAIL END OF THE COMPETITION PLAYERS. SECOND 9 TOOK OVER 2 AND A HALF HOURS, STAFF DID COME OUT TO APOLOGISE FOR THE HOLD UP OF PLAY WHICH WAS A NICE TOUCH.

There were far too many people on this course so waited on virtually every shot and the round lasted over 5 hours, the course was not in good condition probably due to all the traffic it's been receiving, some of the fringes on the greens didn't have any grass. Really disappointed with this course and would not rush back to play it.

This is the first time we have played this course (although we have previously played Quinta da Cima). A tough challenge, but in great condition. The clubhouse is a little small, but the service is great. Good value for money.

It has been been nearly three years ago since the Algarve Golf Society has played Quinta Da Ria. A course designed by the famous golf architect Rocky Roquemore famed for such classics as San Lorenzo, Quinta Da Lago (North) & Vale Do Lobo Royal. His trademarks are all here on Ria; open fairways, abundant bunkers and large contoured rolling greens. It is easy on foot and a delight on the eye with no on course construction and the back nine holes tracking the outer boundary with fabulous coastal views giving way to sweet smelling orange groves. The course was in fine form though the greens would have benefitted from a good cut and roll. The centrally located clubhouse with a large open terrace area is great place to meet for pre and post game drinks. It also doubles up as a clubhouse for its sister course Quinta Da Cima which is to its side - another one well worth a visit and shall be on our calendar very soon. Afterwards it was another turn from our 'Experience' series with a visit to a local portuguese cafe / restaurant on the seafront at Olhão. Fresh prawns and crabs is the speciality here at this important fishing port city. Olhão takes his name from a big natural water fountain, an "eye of water", like the locals call it (Olhão means Big Eye). The Olhaneses (inhabitants of Olhão) are more notorious for the trip to Brazil, in a small fishing boat (60-65 ft) with 17 fisherman, that, without maps or any guiding tools (but the stars), went to warn King John VI, who was exiled in that country, that the French had been defeated and banished from Portugal. Our thanks to Eve Koch for the co-ordination of another great 'Experience'. Watch out for the next one mid- august this time coinciding with the sardine festival in Portimao.
