Benamor golf course was the first golf course to open east of the capital of the Algarve, Faro, and lies just outside the city of Tavira. This course offers a pleasant experience, to players of all standards. The golf course is undulating but not hilly. The views of the mountains to the North and the Atlantic Ocean to the South are stunning. The fairways of Bermuda Sahara and cool-season grasses provide good lies for wood and iron shots. Player's accuracy is particularly called upon by the architects' retention of as many of the old trees as feasible. These natural obstacles coupled with strategically placed bunkers and occasional water hazards make the course a worthwhile challenge. This golf course was selected as the Best Maintained Course in 2001 by the Portuguese Golf Federation.
Benamor is now probably our favourite course when we tour to the Algarve. Compared to other courses in the region it's quiet which is surprising given the course is in fabulous condition and has lots to offer in terms of variety of holes and challenges, especially on the back 9. A plus is that it's walkable with trollies and coming back to the clubhouse at hole 9 means a quick pit-stop is possible. We're all looking forward to playing again next year!
Golf course in very good condition.

Nice course but probably too busy, felt we were waiting on most shots, back nine was better than the front. Enjoyed our day, but there are other courses we prefer
Very enjoyable round of golf
Nice golfcourse, not too difficult. Front nine very short par 4’s and fairways close to each other. Back nine were much more challenging!
Course and greens OK . So was the service..
Fairways a bit bare and overplayed
Benamor staff were very accommodating with me changing my mind about which day I would play. On the course it was a little slow, but the staff did warn me, so it was not a big issue.
As usual an enjoyable round
Very normal course nothing spectacular, seems to be Swedish enclave Very, very nice staff
Course OK green far to slow
A lovely golf course in great condition. Bouncy fairways and fast true greens.
Fairways good condition Greens fast with some extremely difficult positions Bunkers very poor
Efficient and relaxed service from the staff and course in very good condition
Fantastic course in great condition, fairways were green and well watered, greens were in great shape, fast and well looked after. The clubhouse is in a great spot over looking the first tee and 9th green. Great value all round with friendly staff.
Very nice and well managed course. It’s not long but the greens had subtle contours. The staff in the office and bar were welcoming and efficient.
Hello Maria, service by BENAMOR is excellent. Today I lost one club and the Marchall asked as after our play if we lost it. Perfect!!!
Nice staff, golf cours in good condition.????
Very underrated course. We find it very good although this year it was extremely busy just under 5 hrs. Overall as a starter course for my tour it’s perfect
Benamor although a short course(5750 yards from Yellows) is quite tight and the greens are very fast. Overall condition of course was good and a lovely clubhouse/bar where the food was excellent and very good value for money.I thought green fees were a little bit steep at €71 but if you play in early September you only pay about€40 which is excellent value
The course itself was enjoyable but the quality was either disappointing
Considering we are in peak season, it was a strange time to topdress the greens and tee boxes! The buggies were horrendous! We won’t be back
Very enjoyable experience and friendly staff
Great, quick and friendly service
Got very tired in the heat and wondered where all the benches are at the tees! Course in good conditio.n
Benamor course was in good condition. Trolley hire easy to do & good value. I was paired with a member for the round & it was enjoyable.
Not long, but challenging nonetheless
We have played Benamor on a number of occasions, it is a course which is ideal for those who don’t hit the ball huge distances but it is a good test of golf with very quick greens. All of our party were very impressed and very much enjoyed the course.
Excellent as usual though a bit slow
Everything was fine apart from greens and tees being sanded whilst we were playing
As a newbie I was made very welcome by Chez Carlos members. Staff at Benamor were as usual very helpful. The course was in good order although the weather was foul. My actual golf was the worst I have played in a while but despite this I enjoyed the experience due to the company and the positive supporting atmosphere of both Chez Carlos Society and Benamor. Looking forward to future outings with Chez Carlos and to improve performance on the courses and to the ''craic'' with fellow members.
Lovely course with fairly easy walking, holes aren't long but can be tricky. Thank you for organising our golf Marisa.
Lovely views, holes are a bit short but a very pleasant experience
We play Benamor each year (twice this year) and thoroughly enjoy our visits. The course is always in good condition, the holes are fair for beginners and the more experienced golfer, the staff are friendly and the beer afterwards is always cold!! It is also good value for money compared to the western Algarve.
Nice golf course. Holes are very close to eachother and mainly straight and narrow. Few lakes and almost all bunkers at greens, but all in all a good experience.
On my recent trip I played the Benamor golf course which I enjoyed. On my arrival I was greeted in the Pro shop where I presented my voucher and I hired clubs for my round €25 . The staff were friendly and welcoming. I was put out with 2 members as I was a single player. The course was busy but it moved well. The round took about 4 hours as the time allotted on the course. The clubhouse served food and had an extensive menu. I was made most welcome by all the people I met and I had a great day.
Course is in all round good condition, not crowded, had an enjoyable round of golf.
It has been a long time since I last played Benamor. I had forgotten how nice it is. This is not a big course but you still need to think your way round. The greens were excellent, quite quick and true. There has been a lot of work done on the course and it is looking better than ever. What a treat...
A really lovely day out. Good company, food and wine. The course is in good condition, but the greens a bit slow.
Really friendly staff nothing too much trouble will come back again.
Very good welcome, I played with à couple of swedes and the course was very nice
Nice course bit pricy and a bit slow with inexperienced golfers ahead of us but overall good experience
Benamor is a friendly golf course that provides a challenge to golfers of all abilities. For the very low handicap golfer it offers the opportunity to go under net par. Consequently it can be busy. The course is in great condition.
Excellent days golf. Not to crowded.
Benamor was fairly dry but all enjoyed the golf
Extremely busy, played here many time but never played that slow before. However greens were perfect, relaxing course and the staff were very friendly. Pleasure to play on the course. Played with another English gentleman who was a member and invited me to play again.
The club was great in that we went a day early by mistake and they still allowed us to play. We were held up by two four balls who should have let us through but kept ignoring us. Not the clubs fault. However the course was in good condition. Buggies were relatively cheap to hire as compared to other Algarve courses. Probably the right amount of challenge in the course for us.
Very good an excellent course for holiday golf
Ingrid van Loenhout
The course is averige. Lots of sand.
Very good course
Very friendly underrated golf course we love it a good course to kick off our tour
excellent CONDITION BUT A BIT SLOW!
not to difficult to play, beautiful course !
Course in good condition and few people playing soma good fast round.
A lovely course. Challenging but good. Lovely condition.
Excellent condition and no waiting.
Really enjoyed a tricky course. Would come back for sure
UK country-style course, nice welcome and friendly locals. Some electric walking trolleys for hire would be a good idea.
Very nice course, but the greens were very disappointing
Excellent and fine for our last day!
Well maintained course with some nice features
Course was very busy some delays
Un parcours amusant à l entretien très correct . Des vallons , des dodlegs ,,un peu d eau à franchir. Tout pour passer un bon moment golfique.
Course was fine, nice Terrace and efficient reception
Unfortunately only played seven holes due to the very wet weather.
Pity about the greens being tined but the course was in good condition. Buggies very expensive 20 to 25 Euro should be the maximum in line with the majority of courses in UK
Good morning everyone. on that Saturday morning we played at benamor and the 4 ball were absolutely gentleman, so much so that I felt so good that I score 40 points with 2 blobs on the par 5. Like the course and I will play there again. Wish Mr Douglas happy return to the UK. we hope to see you in Portugal again soon. Best Regards Franc Coutinho
Course slightly unkept around tees and bunkers.
First time at Benamor. The course was in good condition and the greens were running true. The organisation was excellent as always.
Another great day at Benamore with lovely company and great fun back in Chez Carlos Restraurant after the golf , many thanks, looking forward to our next game
Course in good condition, not to long but some challenging holes, service from all staff excellent.
Course in excellent condition. Hardly anyone on course this morning and two of us went round in 3 hours.
The course is in good condition, it is not a long course but some holes are blind from the tee and it would help to have some marker in the distance for direction. Staff are extremely pleasant and helpful
Average - cost if 25 euros for junior was a bit high
Very fast and effective service for the booking, golf course in perfect conditions :-D
Not a long golf course but requesting some management. Great condition and all áreas are very well manicured. Typical holiday golf course
Just played Benamor course I good condition. Greens better than last week.
Enjoyed Benamor course very much. Greens had been tyned and hollowed previous week so not as true as normal. The tee times given to us were different to the ones Benamor had. We were given 0840hrs and Benamor had 0904hrs. No major problem but I could have done with an extra 25 minutes “ beauty sleep “
Enjoyable but not the best.
Great holiday golf course. Perfect for a relaxing day of golf. Tees, fairways, greens and roughs all in great condition.
In very good condition. Not too crowded.
Course in very good condition. Tees, fairways and greens really good. Bunkers not great but this was due to the heavy rain in the area over the last week. All in all a most enjoyable day out.
SASSARD - MARIE
I always enjoy Benamor. Yesterday we dodgedthe showers and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon, even though the pace of play was very slow. A lot of people making the best of the weather. The course was in very good shape and the greens were the best we have played this year.
Course in good condition. Service at clubhouse friendly and quick. Course not very difficult and short. Could be one to start with in a holiday.
We thoroughly enjoyed the course albeit slightly shorter than preferred. The green were fast and quite difficult to read. Reception was very helpful.
Nice course was in good condition
Mr Peter Ellam
Staff as always very helpful. Course well maintained and greens very good and true. Good VFM.
Lovely well established and challenging golf course. Reception staff not so friendly as at other two courses we played
A clever little course in the most beautiful setting. Great club house and welcoming staff. Today the greens were lightening quick. Very tough. Well done to those who ended with good scores.
Wonderful Course. Unfortunatly we had to follow members in a Medal competition. it took us a long time
Pleasant course in good condition. However, no ranger and near 5 hour round rather spoiled the experience.
Mr Stephen Macguffie
Poor golf course and overcrowded
Malcolm Stuart Russell
Good course which we all enjoyed. Excellent food and service.
nice holiday course.
Very good course, well maintained.
Beautiful. One of the most picturesque courses on the Algarve. Not a long course but with enough intrigue to make it quite interesting. Today the course was in good condition and the greens were in great shape. Soft enough to take spin/stop and true. Great reception and club house. Favourite hole 10th - par 3.
Our favourite course of the trip. It was in superb condition and the whole group enjoyed playing there.
If you want a course with charm, then Benamor has charm in spades. Not a long course but still needs to be played with respect. I think the 10th hole is one of the best par 3's you will find anywhere. The course today was in great condition, with good fairways and firm greens.
good golf course, poor driving range especially for short game
In my opinion, the green fee for Benamor has gotten way too high, for this kind of course. I rate it asvery mich a B course based on challenge, condition and over all experience. It is not worth thr green fee.
Course in excellent form
Benamor was in very good condition, the drizzle was annoying but hardly your fault
lovely friendly course and staff, course in good condition would play again.
pleasant club course in good condition
Course in good condition
Benamor is a lovely undulating course, free of housing developments around it and a fair test of golfing abilities. The greens are in fine condition and fairways good. It was a bit wet in places, but did not affect the overall experience. Ian H
Great little course
Course in great condition in September which was impressive given the long, hot dry summer.
Lovely picturesque course and nice clubhouse
COURSE IN GOOD CONDITION. CHECK IN TROUBLE FREE. SPEED OF PLAY GOOD. BAR STAFF WARM AND FRIENDLY.
Great course with great views. Very forgiving and relatively short so good for us mid to high handicaps.
john michael o'neill
Lovely course in fantastic condition
Good time to play as not held up or had groups being us
Corse in bad condition and they have agreed to pay buggy fees next time
Up to the normal standard we have come expect.
Great. Lovely club
We didn't travel to Benamor, because of the rain. We had played her before, and liked the course.
Chez Carlos Golf Society
The owners of Quinta de Benamor, the Martins Dias family, approached the late Sir Henry Cotton to make a concept design for an 18-hole course back in 1986. The final result is a delightful par 71 golf course of 5.500 metres (6.100 yards), with mountain views to the north and sea views to the south. Indigenous olive, cork, carob, fig and almond trees, many centuries old, feature prominently as does some strategically placed water features. Benamor has a worthy reputation for being a well kept and manicured course – it did not disappoint. The greens were lush and deceptive – quick down and much slower up. If traveling from afar combine your visit with some lunch or dinner at one of the many fine fish restaurants on the seafront at Cabanas (just opposite the entrance to the club).
Chez Carlos Golf Society
The game this week took the Society to the Eastern Algarve again, an area of natural beauty and a popular destination in search of those seeking a taste of ‘real’ Portugal. We last played here in November '11. It is a delightful course to play. Summer has seemed to arrive quickly this week and a band of x20 players assembled in hot conditions for the weekly Individual Stableford competition. Once again the men played off the white tees today principally as it is a better course than the ‘yellow’ yet only 300 meters longer. The course was in great condition with lush fairways. Several of our players had never played here before and they were all impressed. The East Algarve has some great golf so do give it a try.
*Parkland - Parkland / Heathland
*Undulated - Most of the fairways very undulated
*Buggy Recommended - Prominent hills in some parts of the course
*Signature Hole - 13th
*Water hazards - Only the 13th hole has a rivulet crossing the fairway
*Tree Lined - A few trees come into play on a few holes
*Exposed - As the fairways are a bit open the wind will have to be taken in consideration
*Dogleg - Nothing at 90 degrees, but long fading dog legs
