We arrived straight from an early flight, the course was in good condition but the greens were not of an excellent standard we would perhaps give them 6/10 they did not have a complete covering of grass and were quite bobbly. The course layout is good, but some sharp inclines to walk up but nothing too bad. It was a good venue for an opening round for tired golfers.

Der Golfplatz liegt wunderschön. Er ist neben den Fairways sehr naturbelassen.. Eigentlich ist dieser Golfplatz ein Juwel. Aber da die Fairways sehr schmal sind, ist hier ei sehr präzises Spiel verlangt. Das wäre ja auch gut, aber leider hängen die Faiways, sodass die Bälle durch das sehr sehr kurz gemäht Gras und den knochenharten Boden in den Büschen verschwinden.. wmWenn es einmal passiert, dann kann man noch mit "den Schultern zucken". Aber nach dem 7. verschwundenen Ball wird es ärgerlich. Man sollte mal vom Management überlegen, das Gras ein wenig höher wachsen zu lassen, damit die Bälle gehalten werden können. So macht das Golfen keinen Spaß. Aus diesem Grund muss ich leider eine schlechte Bewertung abgeben. -**- The golf course is beautifully situated. It is very natural next to the fairways. This golf course is actually a jewel. But as the fairways are very narrow, a very precise game is required here. That would be a good thing, but unfortunately the fairways hang so that the balls disappear into the bushes due to the very short mown grass and the bone-hard ground... wmIf it happens once, you can still "shrug your shoulders". But after the 7th ball disappears, it gets annoying. The management should consider letting the grass grow a little higher so that the balls can be held. Golf is no fun like this. For this reason, I unfortunately have to give it a poor rating.

Espiche was new to me. It's in the middle of nowhere, but from the moment the clubhouse emerges on top of the hill it has impressive views on almost all holes. Spectacular course, punishing when you miss fairways. You better be on top of your game when playing here. Quality was outstanding. One of my new favorite courses in the Algarve.

Fortunately the golfer that played with us the previous day saw our problem and let the 2 players who could not walk his buggy and he joined us again. Der Platz war in einem guten Zustand, die Grüns hervorragend! Die einzelnen Löcher sind interessant zu spielen, allerdings ist der Platz ein Ballfresser. Viele Schräglagen, so dass der Ball sehr schnell in die angrenzenden Büsche läuft und auch nicht mehr gefunden werden kann. Schade sind die eingeschränkten Öffnungszeiten der Küche im sehr netten Clubhausrestaurant mit schöner Aussicht auf den Platz. Bis 16 Uhr muss man bestellt haben, danach gibt es nur noch allerdings sehr leckere Baguettes. Küche ist ansonsten wirklich gut! -**- The course was in good condition, the greens excellent! The individual holes are interesting to play, but the course is a ball eater. Many sloping positions, so that the ball runs very quickly into the adjacent bushes and can also no longer be found. The limited opening hours of the kitchen in the very nice clubhouse restaurant with a beautiful view of the course are a pity. You have to order by 4 p.m., after that there are only very tasty baguettes. Otherwise, the cuisine is really good!

The clubhouse is spectacular but it is obviously only the start of the development with road construction still underway. The course itself is quite hilly but there are some very beautiful holes. The greens, tees and fairways were in great condition. However, many of the fairways have run-offs which on another course would put you in the rough. The lack of rough means that we lost lots of balls from decent shots either in the scrub to the side or small valleys. I’m sure if you played the course often you would work out where you can and cannot hit the ball but this is easier said than done with the wind in the hills. Not a course for high handicappers unless they let the rough grow to keep balls in play.

played here 8 years ago and the addition of the clubhouse is a good step forward and looks great, on the course i commented last time about there being no rough so you went from fairway to dense wooded areas, this has been partly improved on some holes but not enough, the bushes are penal as its a lost ball every time the rough that is now there is not grown as its so thin as to be non existent it badly need some watering to get some growth in it [ not always possible with the climate }but its really a lottery when you hit the right part or the fairway and it disappears over the hill and isn,t seen again {the 10th being one example} progress has been made but not enough as all 4 of us said we will not play it again, greens were good though,

Der Golfplatz liegt sehr schön gelegen in der Nähe von Lagos. Leider ist der Platz an einigen Löchern kaum spielbar, da die Bälle trotz gut platzierten Drives durch die Topographie des Platzes in die angrenzenden Büsche Rollen. Das Gras ist so herunteegemäht, dass der Ball dadurch nicht zu stoppen ist. Sehr schade, denn der Platz hat tolle Löcher und würde so viel mehr Spaß bedeuten! Daher die etwas schlechte Benotung. -**- The golf course is beautifully situated near Lagos. Unfortunately, the course is hardly playable on some holes, as the balls roll into the adjacent bushes due to the topography of the course, despite well-placed drives. The grass is so mown down that the ball cannot be stopped. It's a pity, because the course has great holes and would be so much more fun! Hence the somewhat poor grade.

This course is tricky. If you hit outside from fairways, you easily lose golf balls as there are thorn bushes. All fairways which have these thorn bushes should have lateral water hazards in order to speed play. Some blind holes. In restaurant you couldn't get any food before 9:00 am. The staff was very friendly.

Overall the golf course was very enjoyable. Nice layout with a variety of holes. Rolling landscape and a lot of fun to play. Unfortunately the greens were not in very good shape at the moment. Even with the current green situation it did not take away from our enjoyment. The starter was very nice with a great personality. The club house was beautiful and tied in with all the beautiful stone work on the course. We would return and my rating would be higher if the greens were in better shape.

Enyoyed playing at Espiche after a 2/3 year gap. Course was in good condition and the greens putted well despite their brownish colour. As always there is only one way to play Espiche and that is hitting the ball straight! Any deviation and there is a very good chance of a lost ball especially with the fast running fairways. In this respect there seems to be inconsistency in what is deemed red penalty areas and other areas, equally penalising which have no designation. A few marker posts would also help visitors on blind holes.

The greens are greate, fast and in perfect conditions. The fairways are to dry and you have a lot of blind shots. So often you‘ll find your ball never again - rolls, rolls and gone…… In front of us a turnement was played, so we need nearly 5 Hours to go…… Sorry, that information would have been important, to change the Teetime.

Pro Shop very busy, course is very nice but too punishing. Meaning good shots hit the middle of the fairway , get the wrong bounce and you end up in a hassard of bush and suffer penalty shots and lost balls ! This slows down play dramatically.

The course is well layed out, with a few blind shots. Well kept fairways and greens (not the fastest around). It is very busy in this period of year so full flights (4-balls) and it took us 5 hours. Played the course a few days earlier in a 3-ball, which took us 4:30hrs. When you tee off at 12:20 you'll arrive at the clubhouse around 17:15 and you might want to eat something after your first drink. Guess what? Kitchen closed, Sir... This is R I D I C U L O U S!!! In high season I expect that I can eat something in a clubhouse. Anyway the weather was fantastic and the golf was very enjoyable.

Grüns in einem sehr guten Zustand. Auch die Fairways sind bis auf wenige braune Stellen sehr gut. Platz ist sehr schön angelegt und macht viel Spaß. Buggy ist für weniger Sportliche zu empfehlen, da es schon viel hoch und runter geht und die Wege zwischen den Bahnen teilweise recht lang sind. Sehr schönes, interessantes Clubhaus, von dem aus man einen schönen Blick über den Platz hat.

After that it was superb. Nice layout with top class greens. We found ourselves behind some very slow players who didn’t wave us through so it was a 5 hour round. Nice food and beverage choices at good prices. Overall well worth a visit.

A hidden gem. A thinking golfers course. It is wider than it looks but as it was so firm and there was little to no rough shots that were off line did find toruble. The greens are large, sloping and fast so do not get the wrong side of the hole. The course is in a relatively remote spot and in a beautiful spot. This is not a long course but has a high degree of difficulty. Beautifully maintained without the use of any fertiliser. In a conservation area so chemical use prohibited. This means fairways do not have the rich green of course which use fertilisers and weed control agents. I had read about the difficult rating of the course in advance so as my party of 7 are all mid teen handicaps we played scramble format for our 3 rounds. Really enjoyable. However I know it would have been dry challenging to play single stroke format. Beautiful clubhouse and brilliant staff.

I won’t be be returning to this course again.

Golf course looks very nice. Unfortunately a very dry and hard ground. The drives will go very far and the will end up in the rough or worse almost every tee shot. Also the good ones. :) You are better of keeping the distance of your tee shot under the 200 meters. When you miss the fairway you will loose your ball. Next to the holes is very harsh terrain. I might return to this course due to the challange and the friendly people and good service.

Espiche which we found not only difficult but unfair - not an enjoyable experience. And would be very reluctant to play the course again regardless of price.

Espiche Golf is a brand new course just North of Lagos. To get there you have to drive past Lagos and through the village of Espiche. At the moment you will find there is only the course and a kind of check-in point, although a clubhouse is in the plans. The 18 hole par 72 golf course is located on a hill and offers splendid views across Monchique mountains and is surrounded by the Algarve beautiful countryside. The holes have quite an interesting layout but perhaps due to the fact that it is still a very young course, with a limited investment, you go from fairway straight into the rough, which makes the ball search difficult. The course misses a generous 1st and 2nd cuts to prevent that from happening. The course has quite a few blind holes, which is a bit of a disadvantage for those who tend to hit long drives because you simply have no clue of where the ball is going to land. The fact that it's almost always windy also doesn't help. The greens vary a lot in shapes and sizes and are quite slopy, which make them very interesting, however they are also quite irregular because of the choice of grass, which in this particular case, doesn't grow in the winter. The good news is that the dry season is almost here and so there is a chance that this is a temporary situation. This first group of golfers were with the Chez Carlos Golf Society and overall everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not a championship course but it does provide a very pleasant experience, particularly with such a beautiful landscape of wild flowers as your backdrop.
