Penina Championship is a Sir Henry Cotton design, located just inland from the coastal resort of Alvor. A very challenging course which is very flat, narrow and long. You will find very good greens which are very well protected with bunkers. There are trees and high rough, you will need to play straight or you could easily go out. There is a long Par 4 to start which is slightly challenging and has a dog leg left. Penina would suit players of all standards and is a fairly friendly course for ladies enabling them to enjoy a shorter distance with 676m between the red and yellow tees. A great golf course with one of the Par 3’s, hole 13 the most memorable and voted one of the best 500 holes in the world!

Fairways very poor with many bare patches. Greens had bare spots on them. Buggies very dirty and stained and in a very poor condition

Course in very good condition playing long. Greens good and true. Very well looked after by all staff. Tough conditions due to playing in temperatures in the thirties.

course is lovely but needs a lot of maintenance very burned fairways not great and greens full of pitch marks buggy was very expensive €52.50 only 35 in alto yesterday which was a much better course what a shame as I thought it would be much better being a champions course

Course in very bad condition. Bad tees and fairways, course very untidy.
Way too expensive for a golf course in such condition.

Very nice course. A bit dry in areas but that’s to be expected with hot weather.
