Morgado golf course the new home of the Portuguese Open, part of the European Tour tournaments Set in a valley in the inner Algarve, between Portimão and Monchique. Morgado golf course is equally challenge for those taking their first steps in golf as for the more experienced golf player, who would like to test his technique. The scorecard shows a PAR 73, but Morgado golf course path length is attenuated by the generous width of fairways. However, less accurate strokes may be penalized by the action of one of several bunkers spread across the golf course. We can say that Morgado golf course is a golf course with the characteristics of a links - with flat fairways and Scottish inspiration bunkers - but instead of being close to the shore as traditional links, it is inserted into an area of Algarve parkland. Surrounded by the region traditional tree species, the player who visits Morgado golf course contacts with a different Algarve, calm and serene, providing the perfect setting for a memorable golf round.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Morgado Golf Course in Portimão. Since its opening on February 3, 2003, the Morgado Golf Course has become a popular golf holiday destination for golfers of all skill levels. It presents an interesting test for novices just learning the game as well as seasoned pros wishing to improve their skills.
The Morgado golf course is located in a valley in the interior of the Algarve, surrounded by natural beauty, and contains 18 holes with a PAR of 73.
Golfers might expect to see features typical of a links course, such as flat fairways and bunkers reminiscent of those in Scotland, but will be surprised to learn that this golf course is actually located in a parkland rather than by the ocean.
Director Jorge Papa of Morgado Golf Course reflects on the past two decades: "20 years have gone since the day when, at the entrance to the Clubhouse, we displayed the 'Open' notice on a basic A4 sheet. With no fanfare, this is how we announced Morgado's launch. The golf course could be accessed through a dirt road that cut through the estate, and its "tender" condition had led to high expectations for the amount of work it would require to join the ranks of the good national golf courses".
"There has been a lot of change since then. We've played home to three different Portuguese Opens, as well as several more professional and amateur tournaments of note. Congratulations are due not just to the golf course itself, but to the entire team", Jorge Papa said.
The historic Portuguese Open has been held at the Morgado Golf Course for three consecutive years (2017, 2018, and 2019), along with numerous other PGA Portugal and Portugal Pro Golf Tour events. It has also played home to various social events and several tournaments at the amateur level of the Portuguese Golf Federation (National Absolute Championship and National Club Championship).
The Morgado Golf Resort consists of not only Morgado and Álamos golf courses, but also the Clubhouse (restaurant and bar), Pro-shop (golf shop), Golf Academy, and an accommodation unit (NAU Morgado Golf & Country Club), all of which have earned it international recognition in recent years, including a ranking of seventh in the 'Best Value Golf Resorts in Continental Europe' category in 2021 and a place in the top 100 of 'Best Golf Resorts in Continental Europe'.

The course was in good condition, service was good. But the pace of play was very slow : almost 5 hours for 18 holes. No Marshall. Not tempted to return.
News - Hot weather

With high temperatures in the Algarve, Morgado's fairways reach temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius, but the course remains in excellent playing conditions, as a result of the improved work of the maintenance team. Players are advised to choose to play early in the morning.

Very good greens, fairways ok but brown, due to the drought.
To be honest, we were a bit shocked of all the unfinished apartment buildings around the golfcourse. it looks sad.
First nine holes a bit monotonous. Second nine more beautiful in nature.
Staff is gentle. atmospheric clubhouse.

Morgado was a real test today we had 20-30mph winds and some rain. The course was excellent but it’s a tough track in these conditions. Greens were slick and true which didn’t help when down hill and down wind. But it was a great day.
