Located on the famous Estoril Coast, 25 kilometers from Lisbon, the Quinta da Marinha course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones and is set in a private estate of 110 hectares, wooded with pine trees. The architect has worked on the flat terrain, laying out the course over 5870 metres for a Par 71.
The most spectacular hole on this course is hole number 3, a Par 4 of 334 metres sloping down towards the sea. Once on the green, the golfer has the Atlantic Ocean as background. The whole of Quinta da Marinha's course is surrounded by beautiful panoramic views. The following hole (a Par 3) requires a very precise shot for the ball to cross a cliff and reach a wide but not very deep green.
For most of the course, however, the fairways face inland with the beautiful outline of the Sintra mountain range forming their background. Many bunkers and a number of lakes make the player's task even more difficult. Hole number 10, for instance, has a green entirely surrounded by water.

It was very busy and probably could have done with a bit of care in some places. They did however offer us a beer to make up for it but we couldn’t take them up on that as we needed to get to the airport

Very busy; lots of players partly in an outfit not suitable for golf. The starter had a good eye and let us start on tee 4 because of a very slow group just startet on Tee 1. We made up holes 1 to 3 at the end of the round, that's why the caddy master asked critically why we were playing 3 extra holes...
We had 2 GPS in the car; both sent us to the Driving Range.

A beautiful, moderately well-maintained course with interesting holes on the back nine and wonderful views on holes 13 to 15.

I know there was a lot of rain over the last few weeks but the course was poor, and the worst we played in 3 days. The greens and tee boxes were not good

The golf course was part of the hotel arrangement and therefore we played this every day. The courses were re-sorted compared to the previous year, but otherwise the condition was as expected. The courses are well maintained. You can't always find the ball in the fringe areas - stay on the fairway. The greens, however, are a real challenge - at least for northern Germans. The greenkeeper reported 11.7 on the stimpmeter. Due to the ondulation, some second putts were longer than the first ;-)
You actually only got the ball to hold on the green with wedges.
You can walk the course well, with carts it is a bit more comfortable but you run up to the preflight more. Waiting times are therefore also to be considered.
