Real Sociedad Hipica Española Club de Campo traces back to 1901 and received its Royal charter shortly after, playing for decades out of a site inside Madrid before the club relocated to its present outskirts location. Texan architect Robert von Hagge was brought in to shape 36 holes from a genuinely difficult, hilly, clay-based site, and the South Course, which opened in 2001 as the second of his two designs here, is the result: golf carved directly from the hillside rather than laid gently across it.

Where the North Course leans noble and technical, the South rewards a more aggressive game, built for players who want to attack the pins rather than plot cautiously around them. Von Hagge's shaping is deliberately dramatic, with fairway edges built up high enough to sit above the surrounding treeline in places, and the hill holes are where the course is at its best, testing both nerve and shot-making on genuinely sloped ground. This is a course that rewards local knowledge and can be unforgiving for a first-time visitor finding the lines.

Facilities include a driving range, academy, and locker rooms, shared across the club's full 36-hole estate. Visitors are welcome on weekdays and, at a higher rate, at weekends, with advance booking essential — book ahead and take on one of Madrid's most genuinely testing pieces of terrain.
