Praia D'El Rey opened on the Silver Coast in June 1997, designed by American architect Cabell B. Robinson on a site he himself said gave him, ready-made, the landscape architects usually have to invent. An hour northwest of Lisbon, near the medieval walls of Óbidos, the course sits within a resort built around pine forest and open dune land running down to the Atlantic.
The front nine winds inland through the pines before the back nine turns hard for the coast. Holes 10 and 11 build the anticipation, the tough uphill 11th offering no bail-out either side of the green, before the course delivers its reward: four consecutive holes, 12 through 15, played out among the dunes with the Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands in view throughout. Golf World called it ''wild and wonderful'', and eighty-seven bunkers make sure the wildness is felt as much as seen. Guest feedback over the past two years is unusually consistent on one point: the greens and fairways are kept in excellent shape.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. Pair it with neighbouring West Cliffs for one of the strongest two-course stops on Portugal's Silver Coast, and book both through Tee Times for the best combined rate. (...)
Dolce Campo Real sits on land once used by the Portuguese royal family as a hunting reserve, in the rolling hills near Turcifal, on the edge of the protected Socorro and Archeira mountains. Donald Steel laid out the course in 2005, around forty minutes from Lisbon and twenty from the west coast beaches, working the terrain rather than against it.
The round opens and closes with par fives, and water comes into play early. The front nine sets the sterner test: the 6th, stroke index one, is a blind uphill tee shot that rewards local knowledge over power. The 5th offers the best reward for boldness, a reachable dogleg-left par five with panoramic views back over the resort and mountains, while the 17th, overlooking vineyards and the clubhouse, is the round's most photogenic moment. The course hosted the Ladies European Tour's Ladies Open of Portugal in 2010 and the ISPS Handa Portugal Ladies Open in 2011, drawing some of the strongest fields in women's golf to these fairways.
Facilities include a driving range, a golf academy with resident professionals and a dedicated junior programme, a locker room, and a clubhouse restaurant and snack bar. Green fees here are notably kinder than at many of its Lisbon-region neighbours. Book Dolce Campo Real through Tee Times and add a well-priced, tour-tested round to your Lisbon golf break. (...)
Bom Sucesso Golf Course starts with a great par 4 playing with drive to the right side of the fairway, avoiding the bunker to the left and the barrier of trees planted between 1 and 9 hole. The blow out the shot is slightly uphill for a second shot to the green with steeper slope. The green is on a higher plane relative to the fairway and the ball the majority of players will be short. However, there is compensation for the player with a blow too long, because the back of the green is a lot, stopping the balls and having the ability to roll these to the green. This is quite wide and wavy testing the quality of players in putt. Water in-play in 8 holes plus a number of risky shots ,you have the elements for a high score on this well maintained golf course . Modern and elegant clubhouse . (...)
West Cliffs opened in June 2017, designed by Cynthia Dye McGarey, niece of the legendary Pete Dye, as the sister course to neighbouring Praia D'El Rey on Portugal's Silver Coast. Laid out across 200 hectares of dune land an hour north of Lisbon, it was named World's Best New Course the year it opened, and the reputation has held.
The Atlantic is visible from every hole, alongside views of the Berlengas Islands and Óbidos Lagoon. The terrain is genuinely hilly, so a buggy is more sensible than optional. Highlights include a Redan-style par-3 5th and a blind, cross-hazard par-5 7th that demands a bold second shot over hidden trouble, building to a strong closing par-4 18th. Even the tee markers are distinctive here: five numbered options, from 47 up to 63, rather than the usual colours.
Facilities include a driving range, resident professionals, a glass-walled clubhouse restaurant with ocean views, and a locker room. Guest feedback consistently ranks this among the best courses on the Silver Coast. Pair it with Praia D'El Rey next door for one of Portugal's strongest two-course stops, and book both through Tee Times. (...)
