Santana club

Santana Golf & Country Club is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 of approx. 6203 metres (just under 7000 yards) in length, set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland. The golf course, sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson, is set in a former avocado plantation. The final result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design. Each hole has two championship tees and two tees for general play for both men and ladies– wide and well manicured putting greens surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, filled with sand produced from crushed marble. Buggy paths are provided throughout the golf course, beautifully integrated between the rows of fruit trees. Santana Golf course is technically speaking a demanding golf course as the unique design of each hole is intended to give a continuous challenge, even for the more experienced player. The layout of the greens, well protected by greenside bunkers, as well as the many water hazards spread throughout the golf course, will challenge every golfer and require good course management as well as the use of every golf club in the bag. It is difficult to speak of a signature hole at Santana Golf as they all have something special to offer. The long Par-4 18th is one of the most demanding finishing holes along the coast according to the designer, with the lake along the right hand side and a narrow approach to the green. The 4th hole can only be defined with one word: spectacular. The views from the tee are magnificent and the ‘Campillos’ stream provides a challenging approach to the green; or what about the 8th hole, with a length of 595 metre (650 yards) considered to be the longest hole of the Costa del Sol and favouring the longer hitter; not to forget the 12th Par 3, playing downhill, with a very large undulating green, many a golfer would be happy to walk away with a three here... One of the most outstanding features of Santana Golf is without a doubt the variety in design, as each and every hole is differentiated by its own characteristics.(...)

Perhaps the brooks that cross the course come into play more often; one of them affecting holes 1 and 18, and the other, in particular, holes 4, 15, 16 and 17.However, it is the wind and sea breeze that are the main factors to bear in mind when playing at Golf La Estancia, as its close proximity to the sea will affect your game and your club selection on the big greens and also with steep slopes which force you to pay special attention to your putter.(...)

Hole 6, 609 meters from the championship tee, is the longest hole in Spain and one all golfers look forward to playing. It winds uphill, through trees and water hazards, and is fraught with danger. Son Parc Menorca

Golf Son Parc is a championship quality course, ideal for beginners and experienced golfers alike. The course is both challenging and picturesque. It is located just a few hundred metres from the award winning Son Parc beach on the north coast of Menorca . Around the course are wooded hills and a protected wet zone with a rich variety of bird life. In the distance are views of Monte Toro, Menorca 's highest point. We are taking great care that we develop the course sympathetically with the environment by leaving natural features such as rocks and planting with native flora. We are also happy to say that all our irrigation requirements are met from rainwater and from treated water - we do not take a single drop of fresh water (either from the mains or from wells) for the course. And we still have that very special feature of Golf Son Parc Menorca - a flock of peacocks who live just behind the third green. They are always happy to share their home with golf and we hope they add an extra touch of colour to your round. The full 18 hole course was officially opened on 12th August 2006. All the extensions have been designed by Dave Thomas Golf Ltd. Dave is the ex Ryder Cup player and designer of many top courses worldwide, including The Belfry courses & San Roque on the Costa del Sol. DTGolf has also designed a programme of improvements for the original 9 holes which is currently being carried out and which will bring all 18 holes to the same level of design.(...)

Holes 10 to 18 are built on the slopes of the surrounding mountains from a vegetation with oak trees with narrow streets and uneven due to their outstanding pond.(...)

Amarilla & Country Club

Amarilla Golf and Country Club is situated on the southern coast of Tenerife, just bordering the sea. The character of the 18 hole golf course is marked by the incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean which, without a doubt, inspired golf architect Donald Steel. The Golf course, surrounded by barrancos and a residential development, provides a defying challenge for the professional golfer while, at the same time, offers an attractive and enjoyable game for those of a more modest ability. From the first tee, the player discovers the spectacular ocean views. Following on to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes that are surrounded by a broad variety of typical canarian flora, enormous Cannas Indicas, the beautiful Washington Palms and the very exclusive Canarian Pines. San Roque Club New

The New course perfectly complements the David Thomas layout that transformed the site back in the 1980s and which put San Roque onto the world stage of golf. Both Trent Jones and David Thomas had expansive sites on which to practice their arts. In this case, Perry Dye, son of the illustrious Pete, found a limited canvas at odds with the magnanimous acreage to which most US golf architects are accustomed. The San Roque New course is laid over a scant 45 hectares, a vaguely triangular-shaped oblong lying parallel to the ocean and with a sacrosanct nature reserve running along one boundary. To complicate matters, its centrepiece was a huge hill festooned with cork and oak trees. Plainly, ''shifting dirt'', as the Dye dynasty has it, was a priority, as was transplanting trees, hundreds of them. San Roque New is an all-round examination of ability and character where the major test invariably awaits with the approach shot. The New course greens, though large, present small targets in that they have a narrow opening or are angled, often side-on and partially hidden by subtle mounding. The lay-up will be a popular option here. Horticulturally speaking, the New course is unique in several aspects. In what he classifies as his wilderness areas, the architect has introduced a species the Americans know as love grass. Similar to marram grass but finer stemmed and lusher, it lays a knee-high carpet that gives a “Mexican wave” in a breeze. It forms a beautiful backdrop to many holes, along with another innovation: cascading wildflowers, acres of them, whose seeds were brought over from their native Colorado, where Dye is based. The more practical grasses are unusual, too. Dye has used five varieties of hybrid Bermuda on each hole: tees, fairways, greens surrounds and on the putting surfaces. On the greens, it is Tifeagle, a species ideally suited to the climate of Southern Spain . It is one that doesn’t hibernate in winter. It gives a good matt cover and has a finer grain, too, bringing a more consistent roll than the old fashioned Bermuda. Good putters will be licking their lips, although they’d better be sharp-eyed. The greens get a tad slick down-grain and consequently more than a hint slower against it. On cross-grain putts, the ball will wander just a touch at the death so bring your reading glasses! A compelling vista is enhanced by a series of rock retaining walls, built from material unearthed in the construction, and two large lakes. The latter provides irrigation and add spice to four holes: the 7th and 14th greens straddle one lake; the 9th and 18th are separated by the other. The New Course is simply a celebration of golf in its purest form.(...)

El Saler Parador

El Saler Golf course, part of the Parador group, is considered by professionals, amateurs, institutions and the specialized press alike to have one of the best course layouts in the world. The course's design took into account its integration in the protected landscape (with native plants such as the famous pale stonecrop plant, locally called ''cat's claw''). The course layout is varied, ranging from the beach links reminiscent of the famous Scottish golf courses, to areas of typical Mediterranean forest. The par-72 course measures 6.042 m, spread out over 18 holes. Escorpion

The C.G. ESCORPIÓN was founded on April 26, 1969, being the first President of the club D. Enrique Puigmoltó, Viscount of Miranda. During the first years the Club was located at the golf course of Manises, to later move to the El Saler field where it remained under a lease until 1975. In 1972, the Board of Directors chaired by Mr. Joaquín Serra Belda reached an agreement to purchase the land of the Masía de Torre en Conill in Bétera. In 1974 the works began and in 1975 the field is provisionally opened to the members. The design of the 18-hole course, with the possibility of a second phase to expand to 27, was designed by the American architect Ron Kirby. The 19th of May, 1976, the golf course was officially inaugurated with an amateur competition and at the end of that same year it hosted the Spanish Professional Championship, in which Severiano Ballesteros, Manuel Piñero, Antonio Garrido, José Mª Cañizares and the rest of the components participated of the Invincible Navy. From that moment the CG Escorpión has been the scene of the best competitions in our country, highlighting the 1980 Spanish Open and the Amateur Spanish Championship in 1984. In 2000 the works of extension of the route to 27 holes were started, with the design of Alfonso Vidaor, who was also the author of the project and execution of the Pitch and putt inaugurated in 2005. With these works the current field of 27 holes was completed and 9 pairs 3, driving range, 2 putting-green, and 2 chipping-green. The rehabilitation of the top floor of the Masía was carried out during 2004 and currently houses the halls and restaurant of the club. In the sgolf area, our club has not only stood out for hosting important competitions, but also the C.G. Escorpion have come out great players. Santander

Rees Jones explains Santander Golf Course this way : My style emphasizes the definition. I spend much time thinking how to create in the player a feeling as he prepares each shot .I want the player to be able to visualize or imagine the shot immediately afterwards he sees the target. To do this I try, where possible, raise the tees; inclined fairways ; add bunkers and mounds; and carefully molding the greens. We use natural landscape features that seem to help stop the ball when slightly miss their target and to provide a greater variety of approach shots. Our philosophy seeks to penalize the golf shots in proportion to the fault. Our golf courses are designed with such subtlety that every time you play carry on another experience. Have a nice golf round (...)

La Moraleja III

This course is a Signature Jack Nicklaus. The designer has turned a farm that was completely flat in a different terrain, building small hills, more or less pronounced, in different parts of the field. And he has achieved a field with multiple game options in almost every hole. It is a classic, parkland type course, long, with a total distance of 6,830 meters, a good challenge to host important tournaments; but also very nice to play for any amateur. Its fairways are wide and its greens, in general, large. It has three huge lakes that affect half of the holes, and the trees that have been planted (more than 1,200) in a short time will also become an important part of the game, as are its 68 bunkers. Strategy is more important here than distance: it forces you to think about each blow to get a better option in the next. Nicklaus has been responsible for that, as well as favoring those players capable of achieving good powerful fades.(...)

The course has 66 bunkers strategically placed around each hole, which means that the golfer will have to keep his wits about him at all times.(...)

Mar Menor

Mar Menor golf course was originally opened as a 9 hole designed by Dave Thomas later converted into an 18 hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus. Without doubt this is an ideal resort or society golf course with an emphasis based on positioning the ball in the correct part of the fairway from the tee and then below the flags on the undulating greens. Some of the earlier holes can ‘lull’ you into a false sense of security but when you reach holes 13,14 and 15 all of which wrap themselves around a man made lake, you are quickly brought to your senses. In particular the 15th hole will test your patience as the small landing ‘areas’ from the tees are well guarded by sand bunkers. All facilities available, Club house, Spa …a place to be all day.(...)

Many of the fairways are bordered by steep ravines and the golf course is dotted with several streams, water hazards and strategically positioned trees, carefully positioned to demand careful calculation and accuracy rather than risk taking. The original layout of Los Arqueros offers impeccably kept fairways and spectacular scenery and an interesting feature is the S shaped bunker at the 9th hole created as a signature mark by the designer. The design thinking behind Los Arqueros Golf was to lay out a golf course which closely followed the contours of the land and was in harmony with the natural setting. It is an idea, which Seve exploited to the maximum when designing the front and back nine holes, each with its own distinct personality. The result is a golf course which presents a challenge for the experienced golfer and is a real test of skills for beginners. (...)
