If the first holes present no major surprise or challenges, after the 3rd, closer to the estuary, San Lourenco starts to reveal itself. After the 5th hole, a par-3 and the course's shortest, you're introduced to a dolgleg, stroke 1 sixth hole where your main challenge will be to avoid the dense shrub, so make sure you get your distances just right. As you get to the 7th, life is by no chance made easier but you still get the bonus of the outstanding views from this elevated tee before you have to focus on how to get around that green almost entirely surrounded by water. On the back nine, the 12th is the most challenging hole on San Lorenzo, featuring a deep chasm along the left of a very narrow fairway. Holes 13th to 16th also face the ocean with the latter proving to be the most demanding par-3, featuring a whole 180 m carry to a shallow green. Seventeenth is, again, extremely beautiful but still falls short of the beauty that awaits you on the last hole. It is a great finale and one that will remain in your memory as it has an excellence that is renowned worlwide. It is, without a doubt, a course for special occasions, that will provide you with unforgetably beautiful moments. Of course such a unique course had to have unique requirements concerning the booking of your green fees and that is only possible if you are a guest at the 5 star Dona Filipa Hotel nearby or by contacting a selected few like Tee Times who will make the required arrangements to book what will be one of the most special games of golf you will ever play in your life.(...)

The Belas Clube de Campos, nested in the Carregueira mountains, is in perfect harmony with Charles Franzman master plan: the houses on the hills with view over the golf and the course in the valleys, protected from the wind. The course meanders in amongst the hillsides, affording splendid views of the Sintra hills and is divided into two well defined parts: one with low density residential surroundings and the other through an untouched natural environment.|There are two holes that are particularly notable for their beauty and their challenging qualities: the second hole, a par 5 called 'Augusta' was built in homage to the 13 th hole of the famous course where the US Masters tournament takes place; hole number 18, a memorable par 4 final hole, was christened the 'Big Hole' because of the second shot that players must take makes some 180 meters from the green, which is well protected by a fearsome lake.(...)

Amarante

This golf course is located within the Quinta da Deveza, near Amarante, where tradition and magnificent landscapes and scenery abound, in particular, the River Tamega and the Mountain of Marão. This is a truly mountainous course as it is 600 meters above sea level. It has four water hazards and covers an area of 40 hectares.|The first hole slopes deeply downwards and is 495 meters long and the last, on the contrary, rather shorter with 447 meters, slopes fairly steeply upwards. Hole 12 is 445 meters long and a good strong shot is necessary to get over the lake on the right hand side and attention should be paid to the left, because of the fencing that marks the out of bounds area. The green is defended by four bunkers.|The course cannot be classified as difficult although it does have excellent and fast greens, the majority of which are short in length.(...)

Oporto Club

Oporto Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Portugal . It begins with a par 4 against the famous nortada, the prevailing north wind, which makes it rather difficult. The approach to the green, which is narrow and doubletiered, turns this first hole into an excellent test for any player.|Although holes 4 and l1 are the most difficult ones, we consider the par-4 7th and par-3 14th to be the best that can be designed in terms of golf. The 9th and 18th, normally offer good opportunities for birdies, making a pleasant finish to a competition. In a superb atmosphere which is possible only among the traditionally hospitable people from the North of Portugal , the Oporto Club offers excellent facilities in its clubhouse, with a restaurant that is a general favourite of its members for eating out.(...)

Porto Santo

Porto Santo’s brand-new golf course stretches all the way across the island from dune-rolling beach to dramatic basalt cliffs. It offers that ideal combination - natural beauty and a challenging game. The layout was designed to blend in with the natural landscape, and immense care was taken to minimize impact on the environment. It features two distinct zones - a South Course in the American tradition, dotted with lakes and demanding a long, precise game; and a North Course played along spectacular cliff tops.|There is also a nine-hole 'pitch-and-putt' course of par-three holes (ideal for training precision shots), and a driving range. The clubhouse is a triumph of modern design, but blends harmoniously into the landscape, with its dry-stone walling, natural wood and hip wicker furniture.(...)

Club Miramar

The existence of Miramar Golf Club is due to the initiative of Frank Gordon and the Portuguese Cláudio e Mário Martins. In 1931, they decided to create a golf club more open to the Portuguese, who in this way could have easier access to golf. Its first General Meeting was held in 1934.|The course was designed by Frank Gordon and Artur Mariani Jr. It is a par 70 - 35 for each of the two nine-hole rounds and it has some holes that deserve a special reference. For example, the green of the 7th hole and hole number 9, a par 4 of exceptional class for its length, the difficulty of the out-of-bounds to the right, as well as a fast green defended by a bunker in front and another one behind. These are excellent holes, that any good player would appreciate playing.(...)

Batalha Club

Batalha Golf Course set on a historic site (the name Batalha derives from the battle waged here between liberal and absolutist troops in the 19th century fighting for political control of the island of São Miguel), the most recent golf course in the Azores stands on a plain close to Ponta Delgada,.|To the North, the course faces seawards, whilst in the East it looks towards the hills, with higher mountains to the South. The fact that the course was built on volcanic rock created difficulties in its design and has resulted in a spectacular contrast between the green playing areas and the dry woods standing on rocky soil to the side of these. The holes are long and wide with large undulating greens, flanked by tall trees.(...)

Furnas

Achada das Furnas golf course is situated on São Miguel Island, «the green island», near the grottoes or furnas, and the lake with that name, places which show the volcanic origin of these islands.|A new nine-hole course designed by Cameron Powell has been added to the previous one. It maintains the character given by Mackenzie Ross, so much so that it is impossible to say nowadays which two nines was designed first. The separation of the fairways is almost always made by cryptomerias, large trees that, in our opinion, are the most suitable for the purpose. The course has all the characteristics of a Scottish one and it is the most British of all Portuguese golf courses. Practically every fairway is undulated, requiring all types of shots, and the greens are excellent and full of borrows.(...)
