Torre is Sergio García's first full solo design, set in a 365-hectare pine forest near Comporta, an hour south of Lisbon on the edge of the Sado Estuary. Opened in 2025, the par-72 course runs to 6,575 metres from the back tees, and García built it with Valderrama, his favourite course, firmly in mind.
The layout rewards precision over power. Fairways are tight but not overly narrow, greens are small and demanding, and large, naturally shaped sandy waste bunkers frame the holes rather than boxing them in. Compared to its sister course Dunas just up the road, Torre plays more as a second-shot test, asking golfers to think their way to the green rather than simply reach it. The pine forest setting and gentle Atlantic breeze add a further layer of decision-making to every approach.
Worth knowing before you book: Torre is still completing its build-out, with the clubhouse, driving range and putting green not yet finished. What's already in the ground is playing in genuinely strong condition, fast, well-maintained greens included, so this is a course worth getting to now, while it's quiet and still finding its final form. For golfers who want to say they played a Sergio García design early, and don't mind roughing it slightly on the facilities side, Torre is the one to book.

PGA Aroeira No.2 is Donald Steel's other Herdade da Aroeira design, opened in 2000 as Aroeira Challenge and renamed in 2024 as part of the resort's relaunch as PGA Aroeira Lisboa, Portugal's first PGA National venue. A major renovation through 2025 has rebuilt tee boxes, bunkers, fairways and greens while keeping Steel's original layout and routing intact, timed to mark the course's 25th anniversary.
Where No.1 asks for accuracy through pine avenues, No.2 plays a different game. Greens run large, some over 700 square metres, and Scottish-style pot bunkers sit among more conventional traps across the fairways. Five lakes come into play throughout, most persistently on the back nine, and five tees per hole keep it accessible to a genuine range of abilities despite its European Tour-standard credentials. Post-renovation, greens and bunkers are already in excellent shape, with fairways settling in well as the work beds in.
One thing worth knowing before you book: a new hotel is under construction at this course, due in 2028, so reception and clubhouse facilities remain temporary for now, with a short shuttle over from the No.1 clubhouse. The golf itself is the real draw here, and freshly renovated. Book No.1 and No.2 together for the full PGA Aroeira Lisboa experience, and you'll get two genuinely different Donald Steel tests in one trip.

On the edge of the Óbidos Lagoon, Bom Sucesso is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Donald Steel, opened in 2008. Steel, a former president of the British Association of Golf Course Architects and a key figure behind changes to the Eden course at St Andrews, set out to reproduce the character of classic, traditional layouts here rather than chase novelty.
The course splits cleanly in two. The front nine plays across level ground, while the back nine climbs into genuinely uneven terrain, with the par-5 17th the standout hole: played from the highest point on the course, dropping downhill across dramatic ridges to a green with the lagoon as its backdrop. The par-5 2nd and the water-crossing par-4 18th add further teeth to a course that rewards patience and course management over raw length.
Conditioning here has been inconsistent in the past, particularly on fairways and tee boxes after heavy rain or dry summers, but recent play has shown real improvement, with the course maturing well. Set against Royal Óbidos and West Cliffs nearby, it's the better-value option of the three without giving up much on layout or views. If you want a genuine Donald Steel design and don't need the polish of a five-star price tag, book Bom Sucesso as part of your Óbidos golf trip.

Thirty minutes south of Lisbon, deep in a protected pine forest, PGA Aroeira No.1 was designed by Frank Pennink, the architect behind Vilamoura's Old Course, and opened in 1973. Visiting players nicknamed it the Wentworth of Lisbon, and it's gone on to host the Portuguese Open twice, a run of Ladies European Tour events, and the European Men's Club Trophy in 2013.
Tall avenues of pine frame every hole, with Robert Trent Jones Sr. later reworking the signature 11th. The course demands accuracy over power, rewarding precise placement off the tee to open up approaches into well-guarded, undulating greens. Recent storms hit the region hard, uprooting trees and damaging fairways, but the refurbishment since has been substantial: fairways have been completely rebuilt, bunkers reworked, and greens are back running true and disease-free. It's a course genuinely worth booking now, as it comes back into its best form.
One thing to know before you go: the driving range sits at the neighbouring No.2 course, a short shuttle away, and buggies are worth booking ahead, since larger groups can leave them in short supply. Book both nines together if your trip allows it, since No.1 and No.2 sit side by side and make for a genuinely varied two-round stay. For golfers who want a proper piece of Portuguese tournament history, this is the round to build a Lisbon trip around.

Above the lagoon at Óbidos, on Portugal's Silver Coast, Royal Óbidos was one of the last courses Seve Ballesteros ever designed, completed in 2012 after his death the year before. It's since become one of the region's genuine championship tests, hosting the Open de Portugal, one of the oldest events on the European tour, since 2020.
Water is the defining feature here. It comes into play on the majority of holes, working through an interconnected system of lakes and streams rather than sitting as an afterthought. The par-3 3rd, with its island green, is the signature hole and among the most photographed in Portugal, while the 6th plays a short, deceptively tricky carry across the lagoon that swallows more balls than its length suggests it should. The back nine opens out toward the Atlantic, with genuine elevation change between the 1st green and 2nd tee, so bring a buggy if you want to enjoy the climb rather than survive it.
Conditioning here is generally excellent, though heavy winter rain can soften the fairways, so check ahead if you're visiting in the wetter months. The clubhouse, Golf Academy and Legend Restaurant round out a proper resort experience. If you only play one Seve Ballesteros course on the Silver Coast, book this one: it's the toughest test in the area, and it plays exactly the way he wanted it to.

Golf Estoril, above the Atlantic, this is one of Portugal's oldest and most storied golf clubs. The original nine holes date to 1929, redesigned and expanded by the Scottish architect Philip Mackenzie Ross in 1936. For around twenty years it hosted the Portuguese Open, and for more than sixty it staged the Portuguese International Amateur Championship, drawing some of the game's biggest names to its fairways over the decades.
This is a course built for accuracy, not distance. Fairways run tight between eucalyptus, pine and mimosa, and the small, well-defended greens punish anything loose. The par-3 13th, Patiño's hole, doglegs sharply right to a raised green, while the par-3 16th, at 186 metres, is widely reckoned one of the best holes in Portugal. Book this if you want history and shot-making over sheer length.
Some development work is currently under way near the clubhouse, so expect a little construction alongside your round for now, but it hasn't dented what regulars keep coming back for: greens and fairways are consistently well kept, and the traditional clubhouse remains one of the most characterful in Portuguese golf. With Estoril's casino, beach and restaurants all a short walk away, this is the round to build a Lisbon coast day around. For golfers who want to walk fairways that have shaped a century of Portuguese golf, book Estoril.

Lisbon Sports Club is one of Portugal's oldest golf addresses, with golf added to the club's sporting activities in 1922. The course found its permanent home in the wooded Serra da Carregueira hills near Belas in 1964, a valley setting some twenty minutes from Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais alike.
Hawtree & Sons laid out a parkland course in the Scottish tradition, narrow and tree-lined, with a stream that shadows play across much of the round. The opening stretch sets the tone: woods to the left, water to the right, and bunkers on both sides of the 1st, followed immediately by a demanding par three before most golfers have found their rhythm. The layout stays rustic rather than manicured throughout, which is very much the point. The clubhouse, converted from the estate's original house, keeps its colonial-era character, and its terrace looks out over the 5th and 18th fairways.
Facilities include a driving range, a golf academy with a resident professional, and a clubhouse restaurant with its own on-site microbrewery, a rare find on a Portuguese golf course. Twenty minutes from Lisbon's airport, it suits a round either side of a flight as easily as a full day out. Book Lisbon Sports Club through Tee Times and add some proper old-club character to your Lisbon golf break.

Penha Longa Atlantic sits in the wooded hills above Lisbon, laid out by Robert Trent Jones Jr in 1992 beside a monastery founded in 1355. Little else in Portuguese golf shares this setting: granite outcrops, rising forest, and the old monastic buildings that gave the estate its name, now the centrepiece of a Ritz-Carlton resort inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
The course runs out and back, dropping gently downhill through the first ten holes before climbing again toward the monastery to close. Elevated tees and greens sharpen every decision, and wind off the hills adds a further layer to the test. Short par fives reward a well-placed drive, while two compact par fours at the 3rd and 13th punish anyone reaching for more club than judgement allows. The 6th is the hole most golfers remember: an old aqueduct and the ruins of a castle wall frame a lakeside green. The Atlantic hosted the Portuguese Open in 1994, 1995 and 2010, and continued investment in course maintenance has brought conditioning back to the standard those honours suggest.
Facilities run to a full-length driving range, a golf academy with resident professionals, GPS-equipped buggies and a clubhouse with restaurant and snack bar. Few courses in the Lisbon region combine history, terrain and pedigree quite like this. Book Penha Longa Atlantic through Tee Times and secure your round at one of Portugal's most distinctive golf addresses.

Dolce Campo Real sits on land once used by the Portuguese royal family as a hunting reserve, in the rolling hills near Turcifal, on the edge of the protected Socorro and Archeira mountains. Donald Steel laid out the course in 2005, around forty minutes from Lisbon and twenty from the west coast beaches, working the terrain rather than against it.
The round opens and closes with par fives, and water comes into play early. The front nine sets the sterner test: the 6th, stroke index one, is a blind uphill tee shot that rewards local knowledge over power. The 5th offers the best reward for boldness, a reachable dogleg-left par five with panoramic views back over the resort and mountains, while the 17th, overlooking vineyards and the clubhouse, is the round's most photogenic moment. The course hosted the Ladies European Tour's Ladies Open of Portugal in 2010 and the ISPS Handa Portugal Ladies Open in 2011, drawing some of the strongest fields in women's golf to these fairways.
Facilities include a driving range, a golf academy with resident professionals and a dedicated junior programme, a locker room, and a clubhouse restaurant and snack bar. Green fees here are notably kinder than at many of its Lisbon-region neighbours. Book Dolce Campo Real through Tee Times and add a well-priced, tour-tested round to your Lisbon golf break.

Within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Oitavos Dunes golf course was designed by the American architect Arthur Hills and opened in 2001, built with genuine care to preserve the dune ecosystem it sits on. It became the first course in Europe, and only the second in the world, to earn Audubon International's Gold Signature Sanctuary status, and it's hosted the Portuguese Open twice, in 2008 and 2009.
The round moves through three distinct landscapes: umbrella pine forest planted more than fifty years ago, wind-sculpted natural dunes, and open, exposed links-style terrain, with the Atlantic Ocean, the Sintra mountains and Cabo da Roca, continental Europe's westernmost point, in view throughout. Quick, sloping greens and genuine wind off the sea make club selection as important as the shot itself, and no two holes play the same. Book this if you want a genuine links experience without leaving mainland Portugal.
Facilities include a driving range, academy, locker rooms and a clubhouse with sea views, and the course is consistently rated Portugal's number one. Conditioning is excellent across the vast majority of visits, whatever the weather throws at it. One thing worth budgeting for: buggy hire here runs higher than most Portuguese courses and doesn't include GPS, so factor that into your day. For golfers who want the best course in the country and don't mind paying resort prices to play it, Oitavos Dunes is the one to book.

Belas Clube de Campo was laid out by American architect Rocky Roquemore in the Carregueira hills near Belas, opened in the late 1990s as the golf heart of a wider residential estate master-planned by Charles Franzman. Houses sit on the hilltops looking down over fairways that thread through the sheltered valleys below, around thirty minutes from Lisbon and a natural stop between the airport and Cascais.
Roquemore's touch shows clearest in the small, strategically placed bunkers guarding holes 2, 3 and 5. The par-five 2nd, known as 'Augusta' for its nod to the Masters' famous 13th, sets an early tone, while the 9th demands a precise tee shot past a ravine and lake to leave any real chance at the green. The two-tier green at the 11th punishes a careless approach, and the round closes at the 'Big Hole', a testing par four where a well-guarded lake often leaves a long second shot into the 18th.
Facilities run to a driving range, a golf academy with resident professionals, a locker room, and a clubhouse restaurant with terrace views over the course. Pair it with Lisbon Sports Club or Penha Longa Atlantic for a complete Lisbon golf break, or book it on its own through Tee Times for a genuine test in the Sintra hills.

Quinta do Perú was designed by American architect Rocky Roquemore and opened in 1994 as the first golf course built in the Azeitão region, thirty minutes south of Lisbon, set against the Serra da Arrábida. It has hosted a Challenge Tour event and the Portuguese National Amateur Championship, and once ranked as high as 57th in Europe.
The parkland course winds through mature pines and cork oaks, threaded with wildflowers and laced with water throughout. The short 8th is guarded by a lake in front of the green, the par-four 12th runs alongside water all the way to the putting surface, and the sternest test comes at the 16th, a par three of more than 200 metres played entirely over a lake. Fast, true greens are the course's calling card, and guest feedback consistently backs that up.
Facilities include one of the best practice grounds in Portugal, a golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant with views back to the Arrábida hills. Pair it with PGA Aroeira nearby for a strong two-course stop south of the river, and book through Tee Times.

Dunas Terras da Comporta was designed by Scottish architect David McLay Kidd, the man behind Bandon Dunes, and marks his first course in mainland Europe. It opened in 2023 within the Terras da Comporta estate on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, an hour south of Lisbon, laid across 84 hectares of natural sandy dune land.
The par-71 links routes fescue fairways through the dune contours rather than over them, with wasteland-style bunkering and native vegetation standing in for trees. Greens run large, fast and genuinely undulating, and six sets of tees on every hole mean the course flexes from a relaxed round to a serious test. Since opening, it has been named World's Best Golf Course at the 2024 World Golf Awards and Europe's Best Golf Course in 2025, and currently ranks inside Continental Europe's Top 10 and number one in Portugal.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, clubhouse restaurant and pro shop, with a buggy included in every green fee. Pair it with sister course Torre Terras da Comporta for arguably the strongest two-round stop in the country, and book both through Tee Times.

The One Lisbon Golf opened in 2003, designed by American architect Gary Grandstaff on a steep hillside in Lumiar, ten minutes from Rossio and five kilometres from the airport. It's a genuine city course, not a scaled-down approximation of one.
Nine holes play to a par of 29, seven of them par threes and two par fours, each built to a standard you'd expect on a full-length layout. The round drops away from the clubhouse before climbing back up to it, giving even a short game real teeth. Expect a round of around two hours, sharp enough to fit around a day of sightseeing rather than replace it.
Facilities include a 250-metre covered, illuminated driving range using a water range with floating balls, a golf academy with PGA-certified instructors, and a clubhouse with a VIP lounge serving Portuguese cuisine. Book The One Lisbon Golf through Tee Times for a quick, genuinely central round when a full day on the fairways isn't on the itinerary.

Troia Golf Championship Course is a spectacular links, and one of the most fascinating golf challenges in Portugal. The magazine Golf World elected in 2003, as the 25th best European Golf Course. The usual approach to the golf course is straight over the Estuary of the Sado River - a pleasant short ferry ride from Setubal to the Peninsula of Troia, a region of great natural beauty near the Atlantic Ocean.|The greens are small with naturally shaped defensive bunkers and hummocks, while the fairways are narrow and hemmed in by sandy dunes and pine trees, providing a genuine test of skill for the lowers handicap golfers together with enjoyment for the more modest players.|The front nine has a run of beautiful sea holes. Troia Golf Championship Course offers you a comfortable and welcoming Clubhouse, constructed in a rustic style, with a set of first class facilities services: golf reception, pro-shop, bar, restaurant and a large balcony to the 18th Green and also a excellent Driving Range with two putting-greens and one chipping and bunker practice area.

Quinta da Marinha was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr and opened in 1984, laid out across 110 hectares of pine estate on the Estoril coast near Cascais, about 25 kilometres from Lisbon. The course predates the resort hotel that later grew up around it by a decade and a half, and it still carries the hallmarks of a genuine Trent Jones design.
Elevated tees and greens, generous bunkering, and narrow driving corridors reward accuracy over power throughout. The par-four 3rd, sloping down to the sea, was for years the picture used to promote golf in Portugal abroad. The 4th plays over a ravine to a demanding green, the 13th crosses a lake to a well-bunkered target, and the round closes at the 18th with two lakes guarding the way home. The course has hosted the Ladies Masters, the PGA Seniors Tour Championship, and a Challenge Tour event.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals, and a clubhouse restaurant and snack bar. Book Quinta da Marinha through Tee Times, and pair it with neighbouring Oitavos Dunes for two very different rounds on the same stretch of coast.

Praia D'El Rey opened on the Silver Coast in June 1997, designed by American architect Cabell B. Robinson on a site he himself said gave him, ready-made, the landscape architects usually have to invent. An hour northwest of Lisbon, near the medieval walls of Óbidos, the course sits within a resort built around pine forest and open dune land running down to the Atlantic.
The front nine winds inland through the pines before the back nine turns hard for the coast. Holes 10 and 11 build the anticipation, the tough uphill 11th offering no bail-out either side of the green, before the course delivers its reward: four consecutive holes, 12 through 15, played out among the dunes with the Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands in view throughout. Golf World called it ''wild and wonderful'', and eighty-seven bunkers make sure the wildness is felt as much as seen. Guest feedback over the past two years is unusually consistent on one point: the greens and fairways are kept in excellent shape.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. Pair it with neighbouring West Cliffs for one of the strongest two-course stops on Portugal's Silver Coast, and book both through Tee Times for the best combined rate.

Ribagolfe Lakes was designed by former European Tour player Peter Townsend with European Golf Design, opened in 2004 within a native cork oak forest near Samora Correia, about forty minutes east of Lisbon. It was built as a genuine championship test, and it plays like one.
Narrow, tree-lined corridors reward accuracy over power, and the oversized greens look forgiving until you're actually putting on them. Water hazards run throughout the round, most dangerously at the risk-and-reward par-four 14th. Since 2009, Ribagolfe Lakes has hosted the first stage of the European Tour Qualifying School every year, earning it the nickname ''the Valderrama of Portugal'' among the players who've tested themselves here. Expect genuinely wild surroundings, too: local wild boar are known to leave their mark on the fairways from time to time, part of the charm of playing somewhere this untouched.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. Pair it with sister course Ribagolfe Oaks for two very different rounds in one visit, and book both through Tee Times.

West Cliffs opened in June 2017, designed by Cynthia Dye McGarey, niece of the legendary Pete Dye, as the sister course to neighbouring Praia D'El Rey on Portugal's Silver Coast. Laid out across 200 hectares of dune land an hour north of Lisbon, it was named World's Best New Course the year it opened, and the reputation has held.
The Atlantic is visible from every hole, alongside views of the Berlengas Islands and Óbidos Lagoon. The terrain is genuinely hilly, so a buggy is more sensible than optional. Highlights include a Redan-style par-3 5th and a blind, cross-hazard par-5 7th that demands a bold second shot over hidden trouble, building to a strong closing par-4 18th. Even the tee markers are distinctive here: five numbered options, from 47 up to 63, rather than the usual colours.
Facilities include a driving range, resident professionals, a glass-walled clubhouse restaurant with ocean views, and a locker room. Guest feedback consistently ranks this among the best courses on the Silver Coast. Pair it with Praia D'El Rey next door for one of Portugal's strongest two-course stops, and book both through Tee Times.

Ribagolfe Oaks opened in 2004, designed by former Ryder Cup player Michael King in partnership with European Golf Design. It's one half of the Ribagolfe complex near Benavente, about thirty minutes east of Lisbon, set among stands of cork oak on the edge of the Alentejo.
Oaks is the more open and forgiving of Ribagolfe's two courses, with wider fairways and generously sized greens than its sister layout, Ribagolfe Lakes. Water hazards wait at the 6th and 13th, and bunkers guarding most greens reward a high approach over a low, running one. Despite consistent woodland scenery throughout, each hole is shaped individually, giving the round genuine variety from start to finish.
Facilities include a driving range, a golf academy, resident professionals, a locker room and a clubhouse restaurant. Green fees here are among the most affordable in the Lisbon region, and rounds tend to be quiet, away from the busier tee sheets closer to the coast. Book Ribagolfe Oaks through Tee Times, and check in with us on current course conditions before you travel.

Montado opened in 1992, designed by Portuguese architect Duarte Sottomayor, then fully redesigned in 2005 by Jorge Santana da Silva before reopening the following year. It sits among muscatel vineyards more than a century old, part of the historic Palmela and Setúbal wine country, about an hour south of Lisbon.
The course is flat and easy to walk, laid out beneath cork oak, olive, chestnut and pine, with creeks and small lakes threading through play. The par-4 13th is the course's quiet showpiece, offering a clear view of Palmela Castle and a genuine chance at a birdie. The round closes with its best-known hole, a par-3 18th played to a green set on its own island. Recent visitors report the course in the best condition they can remember.
Facilities include a driving range, resident golf professionals, and a clubhouse restaurant and snack bar. Montado offers a quieter, better-value alternative to the busier Algarve courses. Book it through Tee Times for an unhurried round without the queues.

Quinta da Beloura golf course was designed by American architect Rocky Roquemore, the man behind Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, and opened in the early 1990s on sixty hectares of flat parkland between Sintra and Estoril, about thirty minutes from Lisbon. More than 40,000 trees, oak, pine, palm, magnolia and eucalyptus among them, line fairways that wind gently through a residential estate now managed by the Pestana Sintra Golf Hotel.
Water shapes the round throughout. The 7th demands a carry over a lake before a second, more delicate shot short of a stream crossing the fairway. The parallel 16th and 17th squeeze play between narrow fairways with a lake between them, and the round closes at the 18th, where the green hides behind the course's largest lake. The layout briefly crosses public streets within the estate, an unusual touch that adds character rather than confusion.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. The flat terrain makes for an easy walk if you'd rather skip the buggy. Book Quinta da Beloura through Tee Times and pair it with nearby Penha Longa for a varied Sintra golf day.

Caparica Golf, formerly Aldeia dos Capuchos, was designed by Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva and opened in 2012 on a headland above Costa da Caparica, about twenty minutes from Lisbon airport with the Atlantic as a backdrop throughout.
Nine holes play to a par of 29, seven of them par threes and two par fours, built around a central lake with gently sloping greens and well-placed bunkers. It's short enough to fit around a beach day, but play the loop twice for a genuine test over roughly 2,800 metres.
Facilities include a driving range, pro shop and clubhouse, part of the Crowne Plaza Caparica hotel. Book Caparica Golf through Tee Times for a quick, scenic round without giving up a full day on the coast.

Santo Estêvão was designed by British architect Donald Steel, opened in 2004 across 72 hectares of the fertile Ribatejo countryside near Benavente, about forty minutes east of Lisbon and close to the Ribagolfe complex. The course takes its lead from the landscape it sits in rather than reshaping it.
Wide fairways and gently undulating ground make for an easy, pleasant walk, with old cork oaks and golden natural grasses framing the rough. Water shapes two of the round's defining moments: a lake carry off the tee at the 3rd, and a second lake guarding the approach at the 7th. The 11th is the course's signature hole, opening onto the resort's largest lake and offering both the finest view on the course and its sternest test.
Facilities include a driving range, a golf academy, resident golf professionals, and a clubhouse restaurant and snack bar. Pair it with neighbouring Ribagolfe for a quieter, inland stretch of golf away from the coast, and book through Tee Times.

Penha Longa Monastery Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, with Kyle Phillips, and opened in 1995, three years after its sister course, the Atlantic Championship. Set within the same Sintra hills estate near the ruins of the original 14th-century monastery, it plays to a par of 35 over nine holes.
Narrower fairways and faster greens than the Atlantic give it real character of its own, built deliberately as a quicker, gentler round rather than a scaled-down version of the championship course, typically finishing in under two hours. The 4th plays close to the old monastery ruins, the 5th and 8th bring lakes into play against the Sintra hills, and the round closes at the 9th with a view over the Penha Longa Palace.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals and a clubhouse restaurant. It's the ideal second round for anyone staying at Penha Longa, or a satisfying option for late arrivals who still want golf before dinner. Book through Tee Times alongside the Atlantic Championship course for the full Penha Longa experience.
