Palmares golf course, redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, is one the most spectacular golf courses in the Algarve, with views to die for, over the bay of Meia Praia, in Lagos! A player will find a mixture of Parkland and Links all designed to require greater skill to any class of player. The greens on Palmares golf course are large and very sloping and players have to face a few blind shots to them. Some people consider Palmares golf course to be designed for buggies, not for golfers who like to walk the golf course and appreciate it, but please take the time to appreciate the colourful local flora on your way and don't loose concentration for the critical shots.
Tomás Bessa dominated the whole competition and won the 3rd edition of the Palmares Open, in Lagos, Algarve. The second-best Portuguese in the world ranking won his second title of the PT Tour season at the 3rd Palmares Open.
This was his second victory on the PT Tour in the 2022–2023 season. Having won the second Palmares Open back in November, he currently tops the standings of Portugal's only international professional circuit.
The Portuguese golfer shot a combined 204 (66+66+72) to finish 12 strokes under par at Palmares. Tomás Bessa had one less 'shot' than the Englishman George Bloor (67+69+69). Bessa brought in 2,000 euros, whereas Bloor managed to collect 1,300.
In a competition of 74 participants, brothers Ricardo and Hugo Santos not only placed in the top 10 but also finished in a tie for 8th place (-4). Tomás Bessa jumped out to an early lead with an opening round score of 66 (-6). He doubled down in round 2, finishing with a score of 132 (-12) and two "shots" in hand over Olly Huggins (69+65) heading into the final day.
In the final round, which was played in bad weather, he shot 72 and ended up with a total of 204 (-12). Third place was shared by Olly Huggins and Jonathan Thomson (68+69+69) with scores of 206 (-10).
"This last round proved to be exceptionally challenging. I got off to a bad start, shooting 4 over par through the first five holes, but I'm pleased with how I battled back", Tomás Bessa said.
"The wind was so fierce that the ball seemed to travel around the greens on its own, but I kept patient and eventually made several excellent shots. Fortunately, on hole 18, I made a birdie after executing a significant chip", he added.
The third Palmares Open kicked off the third "Swing" of the PT Tour. Following that, from the 20th through the 22nd of January, the 4th Palmares Open will be held, likewise with a prize pool of 10,000 euros.
The magnificent Palmares golf course is part of the Palmares Resort, a stunning 5-star resort located right next to the beach.

Got booked in the middle of a members roll up which seemed a bit strange. memebers were very friendly though. Played here many years ago and was a pleasure to play the new layout. no bag drop off - its a long walk to the clubhouse which is unusual - long way to driving range - fine if have a buggy, otherwise give yourself enough time, driving range good
Course was in great condition and would come back

We had a 1pm booking at Palmares on Sunday March 3rd which the club acknowledged through your Teetimes site, but when we arrived they had no record of our booking.
Although they were able to accommodate us in the end this was clearly an unsatisfactory situation.

A challenging course and buggy is a good option. Some longer distances in between the holes and a bit hilly too. Course in a good condition, though few greens were a bit off.

Warm welcome, all staff very friendly and bonus of having buggies. Shame the Alvor 9 was closed.. alvor and Lagos 9s are the best. Praia is weaker. Pin position on 26 unplayable from above the pin. Fairways great condition. Views are stunning. Clubhouse terrace very nice.

Course in good condition. Some greens on Praia 9 are struggling (look a bit ugly in places but putt fine). Nice layout - varied course - would recommend

Always a very warm welcome at Palmares. A bit busy this time with 4 ball flights but not to much of a deal

Palmares is a nice course it was not good on putting greens but the offer of free golf buggies helped off set that disappointed. But this golf course does not let you book buggies in advance is not good for us going forward for next year bookings .

Played holes 10-27 and the course layout and views are fantastic.
Course condition wasn’t great due to a dry summer and lack of rain but would definitely return again.

A beautiful 27-hole course with spectacular views. Located directly on the sea. The courses on the seaside have a links-course design and offer an experience for every golfer.
The courses on the land side are in hilly terrain and demand a tactically clever game. Certainly one of the most beautiful courses in the Algarve. Unfortunately, the fairway condition is somewhat reduced due to the current water shortage. Therefore, free buggy and buggy bar vouchers were offered. A nice gesture!
*Undulated - Gradual sloping fairways.
*Mixt Course - Mostly Parkland, and Praia Loop offers 6 holes of pure links
*Buggy Recommended - Yes
*Signature Hole - 14th
*Water hazards - Only two holes. 3rd Hole Par 3, and 6th par 5 at Lagos loop
*Exposed - Strenght and directions of wind very important for club selection
*Dogleg -
*Comments - Nice mixture of holes, great views over Alvor bay .
